Chanel Nail Polish: Black Pearl

What I say:
I know I'm going to get some hate for this, but this polish is not that great. I love the color, but that is going to be duped soon because of how popular this shade is, but beyond that there really is no reason to get this polish.

The shade is like a really dark teal, almost black. Think real black pearls, and that's what you are looking at. There is a little sparkle in it, but not over the top, more like a highlighter affect. Beauty Look Book has a really good review on this polish if you want to see good swatches (something that I can never get in this house's lighting) and comparisons with other polishes. It really is a nice color, and I wish I liked it more.

Let's talk about the bottle, since that's the other thing that I liked about this polish. The cap that comes off to show the brush part? I like that. It adds a little class, and doesn't just look like another run of the mill polish that you might have lying around your house. The bottle itself is sturdy, and the shape is easy to hold when my nails are wet, since there's no chance it will slip with its square design.

Formula-wise, this polish sucks. I have cheap drugstore polishes that work better than this one does. It's easy to streak, it is unforgiving on mistakes, and it chips like nothing I have ever seen before. I used the same base and top coat (and Seche Vite) that I always do, and this was chipping within a day and a half. Now, that's normal for some polishes and with how rough I can be on my nails, and that's not the problem. The problem is that a normal polish that chips that fast will have a little chip on the tip, maybe the side, and that's it. It will still be usable, maybe even fixable, and I just go on. This stuff chips by taking out an entire section of the nail, like a corner, half the nail in most cases, and this is as soon as the littlest chip even happens! Appalling!

Something about the formula also is messing with my nails more than usual, making them more brittle and peeling more. I don't know what it is, but whatever it is is really not good.

Scent is standard nail polish, so nothing really bad. The brush on the bottle is standard... really, everything else is just standard. Which leads to the next bad part, the price. NARS charges less than Chanel for its polish, and yet they have a better formula, so this isn't just a high-end thing, Chanel charges too much for too little. I will gladly pay for NARS, maybe even Dior polish because I know that besides the name you are getting a decent polish, and it is a nice treat. Chanel is just not worth it to me when OPI and even Wet 'n Wild are superior in terms of formula, and will probably dupe the shades Chanel comes out with soon anyway, if the shade is popular enough.

Overall, I am disappointed in this polish. I am going to keep it just because I like the color, and it would be a hassle to try and return it, but I'm going to have to try really hard to get this polish to work for me, and that's just not something I like doing. If Chanel polishes work particularly well for you, you might want to check this out, otherwise skip.

P.S. - Just put the "What they say" on the page, and noticed that everything they say is the opposite of my experience. That made me laugh.

Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm

What I say:
I actually don't like fake strawberry flavored things, so keep that in mind when you read this review.

I originally got this is the "Three Lavish Layers of Lip Balm" set, which is a great deal, btw. Anyway, since I hate strawberry the most, and I like to finish things from worst->best I decided to open this one first.

The smell is gross to me, but like I said I don't like fake strawberry. Hindsight says that I should have just given this one away to my niece or someone else, but it's too late now, so I'll just use it up. The smell thankfully does not linger, so it is tolerable for use on my lips.

The consistency is like Burt's Bees salve, or like a really hard lip balm. To use I have to warm it up with my fingers, and then put it on my lips. I think this won't melt that easily, so it would make a good summer lip balm for a handbag. Once on my lips it is soft, but not too soft. A thin layer spreads well, leaving a non-sticky coating behind. It is not the most moisturizing lip balm I have ever used, but that is because vaseline-type products are not moisturizers, but instead moisture trappers. If you really want moisturized lips, put on a moisturizer first, and then put something like this on top to trap the moisture where you placed it. Anyway, it does a good job as a trapping layer, and it stays for a decent amount of time, so I would say it does its job well.

The price for what it is is okay, but not great. This is basically just glorified Vaseline with flavor and scent added. There is a little color in the tin, but nothing appears on my lips, so there really is no reason for the colorant being added to the batch in the first place.

The tin is a well made metal, not too hard or too easy to open, but the product along the sides looks like it would be hard to get out. I personally don't like tins for lip balms myself, since the product gets all over your fingers when you try to get it out, but I know Rosebud makes a tube version of this product, so they have already addressed this problem.

Overall:
This makes a good gift if you like strawberries and like lip balm. I can see why so many people rave about his product, but I personally don't think it is really that great for what it is. The price for amount is pretty good but Vaseline, which this basically is, is cheaper and doesn't have unnessesary ingredients (like color) added to it. Don't get me wrong, I think it is an okay product, I just don't understand the hype behind it, and think there are better products for better prices.
4/5 if another flavor, 3.5/5 because the strawberry was so fake.

Hype Theatre: Yves saint Laurent Touche Eclat

Initial thoughts:
The tube that I got from Sephora appears to maybe be used. The brush is was mostly clean, but some of the product was squirted out. I cleaned the brush off, and it took 7 more clicks for more product to come out, instead of the 30 that the product claims to take the first time it is used. I am weary that I used the product that came out of the brush afterwards without doing a full clean of the brush, but since most of the brush head was pristine, and the product did take 7 more clicks, I am currently chalking this mystery up to elevation changes or the product banging around in the box.

The product itself is creamy, thicker than I imagined it would be, but still more liquid in texture. I would say it feels a lot like a liquid foundation. "One click" (read above) was enough for both of my undereyes, my nose bridge, and a little on my cupid's bow and my chin. While on first glance it appeared to do nothing, stepping away from the mirror and looking again a little later showed that it did in fact help my undereyes a little. The rest was of course not noticeable, but a good highlighter should not be. I used the brush to apply, and my fingers to blend.

Try numbers two and three:
Still taking about 7 clicks per time to use. Starting to think that I have a defective container, but other than that it is perfectly use able. Kinda nice in a weird way, since I know that banging around in my bag is not going to cause it to just come out on its own.

Still getting the hang of the product, but not in a negative way. The consistency of this is way better than any dupe that I have used. It really does not creep into lines, instead seeming to just absorb into the skin that it is pressed into. This makes me sad in a way, since that means that all that money I spent on drugstore dupes was useless, and would have been better served being put into this.

Try number 4:
So I still think this doesn't do a whole lot, but am still really liking the product as a whole. This is indeed great for travel, and does well in "oh crap, I look like death right now, and have a minute to get ready" times.

Overall:
Product: 4/5 - As a highlighter it doesn't do too much, but the consistency and ease of use make up for that. It looks natural on the skin as long as you don't use too much, no creeping around, and doesn't break me out.
Packaging: 3/5 - I both like and dislike the click pen. It is great for travel, and for quick applications, but cleaning the brush is hard, and not being able to tell the amount that is left in the container is really not fun.
Price: 3/5 - I think this product is too expensive for what it is. On sale it is not as bad, but the amount that you get does not warrant the price in my opinion.
Overall rating: 3.5 - If you can get this on sale, you might want to give it a try. Just remember, this is a highlighter, not a concealer. I wish the pen came with more product, and that there was a way to tell how much was left in a pen.

So, I guess you might be wondering what has happened to me (if anyone is still even reading this site). In the last few months I have lost 2 family members, and am losing another one right now. For those keeping score, this will make 4 family members in the span of 5 months.

Blogging is fun for me, but unfortunately takes time away from what needs to be done right now. I haven't even been reading other blogs (if you knew me, you would know that is insane. I normally open-all tabs in my blog folder, and then just read them all throughout the day).

I have no idea when, or if, I will be coming back. I hope I will, since like I stated before, blogging is fun for me. I never started this to get readers, I started this because it was a hobby, something to look forward to doing, a place to write down thoughts on products I liked, or hated.

Thank you for reading this, those of you who are still out there.

Finally finally finally finally finally!

Finally Urban Decay is getting with the picture and offering their Primer Potion in a tube. According to what i have seen, this is only the "professional size" of .85oz that will be available, and no word if they are going to just change over to this style exclusively, but at least it is something. Personally, I think they should offer both styles, since the mascara like container that they have now does come in handy, and many people like it, but to actually offer a tube that you can squeeze it all out of... it was a long time in coming.

Thank you Urban Decay for finally listening to your fanbase and changing something that people have been crying out for for a long time. Yes, I know you did that slanted doe-foot applicator thing, but seriously, you and I both know that was not enough.

Right now this is limited edition from Sephora, and I see no word on it from Urban Decay. It says "online early access" in the email for beauty insiders too. Hope this is testing the waters for the new packaging, and they decide to stick to it.

Urban Decay's site just put up the Professional Size Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I see nothing on their site that it is LE, so it looks like it is permanent! Way to go UD!

What I say:
This stuff is not worth the price. Not even a little.

I bought a Ojon kit because I had heard a number of good things about this brand, and thought I would give it a shot. Included in the kit was a To-Go size of this product, and since I had been looking for a good dry shampoo, I thought I would give this a shot.

There are a couple of things that I liked about this product, and I think I will get those out of the way first. One, the product smell, to me, is not offensive. I wouldn't say I would wear it as a perfume, but overall, I think it does a good job of covering up the dirty hair smell, and also not offend the nose when spraying onto hair. Two, the powder that is in the product doesn't cause the white cast in my hair that a lot of dry shampoos can do. I still need to try a shampoo for darker hair (I have light brown, but still dark enough that normal dry shampoos are obvious), but I think this is a good alternative for those. I know if you use dry shampoo correctly you don't get a white cast, but there is sometimes that spot. You know the one, that spot that you thought you brushed properly... yeah, that one.

Now the bad stuff. This stuff did nothing for me. In fact, every time I tried this product was on a day that I didn't need to wash my hair, but was just practicing for days that I might need this (last minute dinners, for instance), and not only did it not help my hair, I could feel it in my hair enough that I was compelled to wash it out! Talk about counterproductive. I mean, I might be able to see the slightest amount of matte, but overall I can still feel the oil, and on top of it I can feel the powder from this. Not good.

Before you ask, yes I do know how to use dry shampoo. I am getting the product out, but as you know, it is impossible to get something 100% out of your hair without washing it out. This is why dry shampoo doesn't work against styling products, and you can't just use dry shampoo as your only cleansing source.

Next bad thing is the price. This stuff is way too expensive for what it is, especially when there are supposedly better shampoos for a fraction of the price. Sally's Beauty Supply, for instance, carries Batiste, which even marked up from importing is still only $7.50 for 5.05 oz, an even larger size than this Ojon one. Granted, the powder is white, but from many reviews that I have heard, and seen, this comes out of dark hair easily (this is the next dry shampoo I will try, and I forgot to get it yesterday while I was in town).

Overall, if it works for you, it works for you, but for me this stuff was rubbish. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to wash this stuff out of my hair, again.

What I say:
So far I'm liking this foundation/primer/powder/concealer product. It's not the greatest, but I have seen much much worse (looking at you Revlon PhotoReady).

This product claims to be a primer, foundation, concealer and powder all in one. While I wouldn't say outright that it is not any one of these things, what it is is a combination of an average one of each. Average concealer, average primer, you get the idea. So while you are saving time, and actually money (if you do use all of these steps each day), the overall effect that you are achieving is just okay, and could be done better with superior products.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not dissing this product. In fact, for what it is trying to do, I would actually be praising it. To be able to achieve so much in so little of an amount of time is really useful, and definitely has its place amongst the time constricted of us.

The texture of this product is whipped, like Maybelline's whipped blushes. Personally, I think the texture of this product is the worst part about it. Since it is whipped, it doesn't want to stay on a brush, making it hard to apply to your face without using your fingers. So why don't you use your fingers, you might ask? Because when I only have a minute to get foundation on, I don't want half of that time bring spent washing and drying my hands! Once actually on the face it spreads out relatively easily, though because it likes to stick together, it can tend to all try and place itself on the same spot. Something to watch out for.

The coverage of this is sheer to medium, I would say. I could definitely see redness through it, and my undereye circles were ever present (though I always expect that one). Basically, while I would say it conceals at all, it does a pretty bad job of it. I had to apply a second layer around my nose just to cover the redness that I happened to have there.

This product is chock full of silicones, but so far I have not reacted to them. I am waiting to see if I do or not, because depending on the product, and the actually size of the particles, sometimes I don't react. The silicone is how this product achieves the "powder-like" part of the formula. Once the foundation dries, what is left is a powder finish, which is quite nice. I heard some talk about transfer being a problem with this product, but personally have not had a problem with that.

Lasting power was okay. I only wear foundation for short periods of time, usually, and in this case it was only 5 hours before I took it off. It definitely was still there, I didn't get oily through it (which means that the oil control must be decent), and it didn't slide.

Last couples things: colors, and price.

Colorwise, this product is meh. I got both the lightest and second lightest shades of this, and both seemed to be okay for me (I guess I fall in between), but both were yellowish. Whilst I do have a pink undertone, I can sometimes pull off a more yellow foundation, depending on the amount present, and what I was pairing with it. With this, I had to wear bronzer with the lightest shade, which according to Stila doesn't even have a yellow undertone! I definitely fear for women with more pink in their skin than I have, and really wish more companies would realize that yellow is not always flattering (looking at you Bobbi Brown).

Price for this is... not good. While I did say that it was okay earlier, this was based on a "this is my only foundation/concealer/powder/primer" standpoint. If you have decent skin that doesn't need a lot of concealer (which is the one thing I think this thing doesn't do even average), and you are thinking of just buying this, and nothing else, then the price is okay, since it breaks down to just $11 for each thing in it, and you aren't buying anything else. If you are like most people, and you are thinking of using this as a sometimes, not always foundation, than the price is absurd. For $44 you can get MUFE HD, and have change left over (and MUFE at least has a color selection than includes those of us who are not yellow undertone). Also, this product claims to have a shelf of just 6 months after first use, according to the sticker. This actually surprised me, since the product is in a tube, and it looks to be an airtight design. Are the minerals just that unstable, and if so, than how does it last long enough on the shelf until someone purchases it in the first place?

I happened to get both of mine on a massive sale (one of them without a box, but new, and the other on an overstock site). Total for both I paid less than the cost of one, but that was just luck and timing. If I had to repurchase at the regular price, I would not even consider it an option. If I found the same deal again, I would think about it, since the time I save would be worth it.

Overall:
Product: 3.5-4/5 (depending on the need for concealer)
Price: 2-4/5 (depending on if you are using this as a supplementary or a primary product)

The Body Shop Mango Body Butter

What I say:
This is a very nice body butter, but I wouldn't say it is the most moisturizing. Maybe it's because my skin is not absorbing it all, but I think some of my other lotions/butters that I use are more moisturizing.

Speaking of absorbing, this stuff takes a long time to absorb into my skin. It doesn't matter how long I rub, or don't rub, this stuff just takes a while. This is okay at night, when I don't care anyway, but during the day this is a no-go for me. Secondly, the normal idea of having your skin be slightly moist when you are putting this on does not work. Any liquid that you have on your skin is just going to make this butter kinda filmy (you know, that white cast that happens), and make it take even longer to absorb into your skin.

The scent, in the tub, is really nice. I would say mango, like they claim, but not really fresh mango smelling, more like mango candy. On my skin, it doesn't quite smell the same, but since this is a body chemistry thing, I can't really fault the product. For me, it starts to smell more herby? Less like fruit, more like something else, and I can't quite place it. Not unpleasant, but I really wish the smell in the tub would have carried over.

I put the price for both sizes in the price section, but would really suggest getting a small unless you really know you are going to use this butter up. A little does go a long way with this product, and since the scent can be altered by body chemistry, the scent that you thought you would like might not be that good anymore.

The packaging for this is a plastic tub that screws shut. The tubs themselves are colored to match idea of the lotion inside (I wouldn't say match entirely, since for instance the butter for mango is much lighter than the tub), which makes it easy to locate the one that you want to use. Since the cap screws shut, the tub does well in travel, and can take a decent beating. Not throw against a wall type of beating, but it shouldn't crack with a regular handbag toss.

Overall a decent product, and would suggest it for those who can absorb body butters. Decent price for the amount that you get, and the smaller tubs are the perfect travel size.

Yay! I've been waiting for this palette to come up. I love the colors, and the fact that it's vegan means it can be used on vegan/vegetarian people (I try to respect things like that when doing someone's makeup. Granted, that isn't often, hehe).

Besides that, the Guerlain Fall palettes are up at Nordstrom. $85 is a lot of money for a palette, but I just keep telling myself that it is 6 eyeshadows, and the packaging is to die for. Estée Lauder Pure Color Crystal Lipstick

What I say:
The color that I got was Tiramisu, which I would describe as a light pink rose, without the brown many rose shades often have. This lipstick is super sheer, so more shades would suit many skin tones. Estée Lauder says that this lipstick has a crystal effect that creates a dazzling brilliance and dimension. To me, this was a shiny, but not too shiny lipstick, that looked more like you applied a balm over or underneath. Not a bad look, and one that can fit any age, in my opinion.

Pure Color Crystal Lipstick's texture is very much like a balm, which is refreshing, since many lipsticks can dry out lips. I did notice some flakes being accentuated when I first applied this lipstick, but that was because my lips were in particularly bad shape (air conditioning can do that to me). While the lipstick applies, and feels like, a balm, the stick itself is not too soft, so I have no worries about the base wobbling if I use too much pressure, of it melting too easily in the heat. Mostly, I think, it is your lip temperature that makes it apply so smoothly.

The smell is the typical Estée Lauder kinda perfumey fig, which while not entirely pleasant, does fad quickly, and isn't the worst smell that I have had a lipstick have. I would prefer having no scent over the fig scent, but it isn't a deal breaker to me.

The packaging is really nice, and I like the NYX-style lipstick in the bottom of the tube for easy identification. Having the cap be a gold colored metal that somehow isn't the fingerprint magnet that I thought it would be is also a nice touch.

Overall, this was a nice lipstick, and one that I can see myself using up, since the color is a nice work color, without being just another MLBB (though I would classify this particular color as that). The scent is a little bit strange to me, but the texture more than makes up for that, since it applies smoothly, with no need for a mirror. I can't say that the price is that good, but at least you get a decent product for what you pay. May or may not purchase another one, since the color selection, especially with a product this sheer, leaves much to be desired.

Sonia Kashuk Travel Kabuki Brush

This brush is so bad.

Back in the day, or should I say, a while ago, I had a great travel kabuki brush. It was soft, it was compact, it was easy to bring with me, but it had a little problem; the glue for the ferrel was not the best, and eventually the brush head fell out of the brush, and while I could have fixed it, I thought I should buy another one instead. The original brush was from an online mineral company, and the brush wasn't marked, and since it was a gift, and I had no idea who the company was...

Any case, this lead me to find another brush, but most companies charged quite a bit for a brush that I wasn't sure if I would like online, and not many companies sell decent ones in person. Finally, I stumbled upon this brush at Target, and as there was a tester, I was able to get a feel for the brush before purchase. The brush in person was soft, not shedding, not too stiff, not scratchy, and basically a good brush for the price.

New brush in hand, I headed home, and quickly lost the brush (if you have cats, you can guess what happened). Luckily, being a tube, the brush was unharmed when I finally got it back, and so I started to clean, and use, said brush.

Hmm, a bit of shedding. Well, even the most expensive brands can shed when first washed.

Hmm, a bit scratchy, well, that's not good.

Hmm, it smells funny, strange I didn't notice that in person. Maybe if I let it air out a bit.

Hmm, still shedding, and now it is shedding when I use it on my face. I never had a brush do that before.

Huh, still shedding, still scratchy, still smells, doesn't apply makeup well... bah!

Maybe I got a bad brush? Or maybe Sonia Kashuk sends the best brushes, or superior quality ones, for testing. Strange, because I have heard a number of good things about this brand's brushes before, and thought that after the reviews, and seeing it in person, that maybe I had found a good buy.

Overall, this brush is rubbish. About the only thing that I can say it does even slightly okay is apply a layer of translucent powder (like blotting powder) during the day when traveling, and even that I have to be careful doing, since the application is sometimes messy from how this picks up powder. You can try this in person, and maybe you'll be more lucky than I, but for the price, and how the tester was, I really expected a lot better than this.

I know I have been taking a lot of time off lately, especially for a 2 posts a week blog. I'm sorry. I write now to say that I am taking another hiatus, and to, this time, give a reason why.

My uncle passed away this morning. In fact, for many of you, by the time you read this I will already be on a plane to go to his funeral, and to help out my family. Normally, when I leave, I try to have some posts done ahead of time, so that people don't notice. This happened so quickly that I was unable to do so.

What I say:
I bought this cream a long time ago, actually, and when I went to throw out the now expired cream (and keep the packaging, of course), realized that I should probably write a review about it.

The texture of this cream is like that of a whipped, well, cream. It's thick, but still light, and spreads very easily once on the skin. I really would say that it is a loose emulsion (from what they say), because it does feel that the whipping is all that keeps this product from disintegrating back into a more liquidy, albeit fatty, state.

The smell, I would say, is a strong orange blossom perfume smell. Personally, I hate it. It is way too strong, and lingers way too long, preventing me from putting this anywhere near my face. This is sad, because it claims to be a multipurpose product, and that takes it back down to just one. I have no idea why they would add that much fragrance to this product, and am a little alarmed, because many companies add fragrance to hide something, or use the term "fragrance" to secretly add preservatives and claim that they added none. I am not saying this is what this company did, I'm just saying what I thought when I saw, and smelled, the totally over-the-top perfume smell. Remember, fragrance is a personal thing, and you might love the smell of this cream.

I had no transfer or white cast problems when wearing this, but I did have "should not be worn while sweating" problems. This cream would just melt, and become a slippery mess on my body when perspiring. If you workout often, I don't suggest wearing this until afterwards.

Lastly, the packaging. Love the packaging. The tin is lightweight, a decent size, and screws closed, so no accidents from it opening in your bag. The collectible designs are fun, and make it much easier to tell which one is yours if you live in a place where more than one person is using the same type of cream. This is a perfect size for snacks, in my opinion, and am already planning to sanitize my tin to use for things like almonds, since I think this tin is about the standard "serving size" of them.

Overall, this is a good product, but the scent is just too strong for me to repurchase. The cream did melt into my skin fairly easily, but it also melted out just as fast. The texture is quite nice, and the fact that it is in a nice travel tin is also good. Normally, if it wasn't for the scent, I could see myself using this quickly enough that the cost would be a little too much, so that's something to watch out for. It is an okay price for just your face, but getting your body involved kinda breaks that deal.

So I'm back *dances of yay ensue*, and came back with a small haul, because really, when you are driving 5.5 hours to the airport and back, and that's without the rest of the traveling, there will be hauls.

O.P.I. Yoga-ta Get this Blue

What I say:
This is my go-to color for my toes during the summer. I remember back in the day, when the India Collection came out, and this polish came into the scene. It was love at first sight, and I ran (well, drove) to the nearest place that sold OPI to get this (in fact, that was how I found the place that I buy these polishes from).

Yoga-ta Get this Blue is a dark blue, almost navy, but brighter. The closest color from their collection was Russian Blue, but I would call them sisters, not twins. There is a slight amount of what might be called shimmer, but more fine, that is in this polish. It reminds me of car paint, where is kinda shines.

I loved this polish so much, but unfortunately, it was limited edition, so I gently used my polish until it died from old age. I never thought I would see it again, but recently found out that it was so popular that they brought it into their permanent line, where hopefully it will stay.

If you are interested in blues, and especially darker blues, I highly recommend giving this polish color a try. I would say it is a cooler color, but it is one that anyone, from the palest of pales to the darkest of darks, warm and cool alike, can wear. I have never seen anyone who didn't look good with this polish, and that is a hard thing to say about a blue.

End of the Month Lemmings, May

As this month was my birthday, I haven't had as many lemmings this month, since I got some as presents (yays!). Well, I didn't get one thing...

1) Warmer weather.
Now, some of you may be having the same problem that we have been having here on the Northern California coast, but it is still cold. Yeah yeah, maybe not Colorado in the winter cold, but seriously, we are having tons of rain, septic systems are failing because of the water intake is way above normal for this time of year, and heaters and fireplaces are still being used all day because we are 20 degrees below average. (Right now it's only 54, when it should be 74+). I'm not asking for much, I just want it to get back to normal temperatures. (Yes, I do know that this sort of thing happens every 11 years or so, but it's still annoying).

2) New phone.
My husband and I qualify for new phones next month, and are thinking about getting smart phones for the first time. We are thinking about getting Google phones, like the Motorola Droid, or the HTC Droid Incredible, since we have Verizon. So far, the Droid Incredible might be winning out, but rumor has it that it might have either a faulty signal strength meter, or the antenna is not very good. Hopefully I'll be able to find enough research one way or the other, before we buy the phones. (More research update, it's a combination, but the majority of the problem lies in non-standardized strength bars, with Motorola showing 5 when HTC shows 3. Combine with a slightly (very slightly) weaker antenna, and you get the results people have been complaining about).

3) The rest of my packages to arrive.
Yeah, a strange one, but true. I have many packages that I ordered around my birthday (self birthday presents, and a couple birthday presents from money that people gave me, since it was cheaper shipping), and some of them have /still/ not gotten here. *Sigh* Ah well, at least I have stuff to look forward to ^_^.

4) Guerlain Fall 2010 Palettes
Yeah, months away, but still, just look at those and tell me you don't want them? One of the few times I'm okay with being told months ahead of time about a release, because at least I can save up the money to get one (or two).

5) To pass my upcoming test.
Don't want to bore people, but I have a hard test coming up for a certificate, and I really hope to pass it. Study study study.

Yeah, pretty boring, non-makeup lemming list. At least it shows that makeup isn't the only thing I think about, hehe.

Hype Theatre: Lancome Juicy Tubes Smoothie

Good evening (or morning, whatever). Welcome to Hype Theatre, where we examine the most hyped about products, and see whether they are worth the hype surrounding them, are just average, or are downright crap.

Today we will be examining Lancome Juicy Tubes Smoothie, the lipgloss that many women claim is their HG, the best of the best, and worth its weight in gold.

I originally received these as samples and gifts with purchase (and gifted gifts with purchase. Thanks mom!). While I did not receive full tubes of this product, I do have enough to make at least 3 full sized tubes, so this product has been thoroughly tested. This product currently sells for $18 for .5oz (14.6g).

The color that I am mainly reviewing today is Coral Rush, what I would call a more coral watermelon flesh color, with subtle gold sparkle. This particular shade shows as a light pink with a slight orange pull on my lips, very nice, and goes well with warmer weather, though it should work well in fall/winter.

The gloss squeezes out of the tube with no problem, and is not runny (think Bonnie Bell here). Juicy Tubes gloss is more thick, and while more difficult to apply than many, is not impossible. The color is sheer, but does show up, so a thick layer to see the color is not necessary.

The overall texture is not as sticky as, say, MAC Lipglass, but it is by no means non-sticky, like many claims want you to believe. This is definitely in the category of "tie your hair back if it is windy, and you are wearing this gloss." Like I stated, it is not as sticky as a lipglass, so there is less need to worry when, say, drinking tea, but there is transfer. My lips do not stick together unattractively, and there is none of that tell-tale gloss threads when talking (you know what I'm talking about, they look kinda like spider-silk). The stickier texture allows this gloss to stay on for a longer amount of time than it otherwise would, but it doesn't appear to have very long staying power, fading at about the 2-3 hour mark, depending on how much talking, eating, and drinking actually took place.

While there is no creeping into fine lines for me, there is a little migration that happens towards the outside of my lips. Also, this gloss does not fade gracefully, getting stickier and more blotchy as time passes, until eventually it needs to be removed. I cannot layer new gloss on top of old, and removal required something stronger than a paper tissue, and perhaps more elbow grease than I an comfortable exposing my lips to multiple times in a single day.

Overall, this is not worth the hype, and I would claim this is an average product. The price is pretty reasonable compared to others in the same market (like MAC Lipglass at $14 for .17oz, Shiseido The Makeup Lip Gloss at $21 for .15oz), but compared to others in a tube (like philosophy at $10 for .5oz, Sephora Super Shimmer Lip Gloss $10 for .5 oz, Urban Decay XXX Shine Lip Gloss $16 for .4oz), it is a little high for what you are actually getting. Those are just mid-high end glosses, as well; drugstore makeup, which I would consider to be of similar quality, is much cheaper.

Korres Lip Butter Plum

What I say:
This is nice, but I think the best part about it is the smell (yum!). It smells like plums, but a little more fake than that. Maybe more like plum candy. I like the smell, but I can see how others might think it is a little strong. Anyway...

Let's start with the packaging. This comes in a tub, as you can see in the picture, and I happen to fall in the "prefer tube" category. This isn't a deal breaker for me, but I don't like sticking un-clean fingers into my makeup, so this product becomes an "only if my hands are clean" item. I don't like those for travel, since I can't guarantee when I will be able to reapply. That said, the tub is well made, lightweight, and doesn't open accidentally. There is a plastic cover over the product, like what comes with many face products in tubs, which I think is a nice touch, since it makes it harder for the product to dry out.

The texture is lightweight, and feels moisturizing. This butter is not moisturizing like a lip treatment, but it is moisturizing enough to keep your lips comfortable during the day. I would have liked it being more moisturizing, but it wasn't drying, so that's good. It feels kinda soft when you put your fingers into it, like a facial mask, or maybe more like room temperature butter, or body butter. When placed on my lips, it is more creamy, and spreads easily. It layers without problems, and doesn't settle into fine lines, or creep out onto the outside and corners of my mouth.

A little goes a long way with this particular color. It is sheer when a thin layer is applied, but it can look a bit much if I apply a lot of it, since I am more pale, and this contrasts with that. Still, the color is nice, and I would say it might lean more towards the cool side than warm, but not too much that anyone can't pull this color off.

According to Korres, lip butters can also double as cheek colors, making this a multi-use product like Stila's Convertibles. Personally, I think the texture of this, while great for spreading and blending, is a little too greasy for my combination skin. I haven't noticed breakouts, but without a powder, it looks a little... fake? I guess that's the right word. On more dry skin, this might sink in more, looking a little less dewy.

Overall, this is a good product, especially considering the price. For $10 you get a respectable amount of balm (compare to MAC tendertones, that were $14.50 for .2oz back in 2008). Korres also has sets, where you can get 3 of their lip butters for $19.50 (or $6.50 each). Like I said before, I would like to see these in a tube instead of a tub, and would like to have them be more moisturizing, but these are little things, overall, for a product that does deliver.

What I say:

I really like this, and am so glad that I purchased it. If you recall in my April Lemming's post, I mentioned that other countries have a more runny sunscreen than we do, and it was nice to see a company bring a liquid/lotion sunscreen to this country that was easy to obtain, and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

This sunscreen lives up to my expectations, which I am very happy about. It is indeed a liquid/lotion, not that thick cream sunscreen that many companies try to pass off as being easy to spread, and fast absorbing. The tip of the bottle looks a lot like an eyedropper, which allows the sunscreen to come out at just the right rate. Believe me, you don't want a large opening on a liquid like this. I actually like to take the bottle and run it across the area that I want to add sunscreen to, leaving a trail behind that I then rub into my skin.

This stuff spreads really easily, and doesn't leave behind a film once rubbed in. I have to say, that besides BullFrog, this is the fastest absorbing sunscreen that I have ever seen. Once you rub it in, it is gone, and you can barely feel it on your skin. I can't say you can't feel it at all, but to me it feels about the same as a layer of lotion, so it is easy to ignore. Honestly, after a few minutes, I don't even notice it at all.

The best part of a lotion type sunscreen like this is truly its ability to be layered on top of makeup, in my opinion. Since the liquid is easy to spread, and has extremely fast absorption, you can spread a little on your hands, and then pat it onto skin. Depending on your makeup and application, it may or may not disturb your makeup, but to even have the option is better than the majority of brands out there. I have heard some people say that oilier skin can get away with this instead of moisturizer and sunscreen. While I cannot say if I personally could, since I have oily dehydrated, I didn't notice any drying of my skin, so it might be possible.

I have noticed no slipping or greasiness because of this sunscreen, even when I exercised with this under makeup (for science!). There is also no whitish cast to my face and body (I like to use the same sunscreen for both, since I travel a lot), but I do have fair skin. I would guess that this sunscreen would leave no cast on other skintones, mainly because it disappears into skin so quickly and readily. It claims to be waterproof and sweatproof. From what I saw when exercising with this product on, it seems to be true. I haven't swam with it on, since it's too cold here right now, but I would guess that it would hold up. Just remember that all waterproof sunscreens still need to be touched up.

If there is anything I would say I didn't like about this product it would be the price per unit. While still cheaper than most sunscreens on the market in the USA with this consistancy, it is still far more expensive than other drugstore sunscreens that are a different formula. While this doesn't put me off too much, since I am willing to pay more for a superior product, and it often goes on sale, it would be nice if they lowered the price from, say, $13 not on sale to $10. Maybe, depending on the market, they might, like Revlon did with PhotoReady.

Overall, I highly recommend this product. It absorbs like a dream, layers well, spreads easily, is small enough for travel, doesn't cause breakouts, and can be used on both face and body. Really, what more can one ask for from a product, let alone one that you can get at a drugstore?

I got this because of a sale that The Body Shop was having, and since I needed a new blemish stick, I thought I would give this one a try. The ingredients, while not being the most natural, are more natural than most, so that was a bonus.

Tea tree oil, an antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral ingredient, is the star of this particular gel. Because it kills bacteria, which is often the cause of acne, it makes sense that this ingredient would be used for as long as it has.

The gel is completely clear, and is similar in consistency to a really light lipgloss, but without any stickiness. It dries quickly, and I have not had any problems putting makeup on top of it. Since this blemish gel is mild, you can use it multiple times a day, but it's not going to just get rid of the blemish overnight. It does help with reducing the redness and inflamation, but, again, it is not a miracle worker.

The tube, as you can see, has a doe foot applicator at the end. While normally I would say that this is not the most hygenic, since the key ingredients would kill anything that you put in there, and you are normally using this right after washing your face, it doesn't actually seem that bad. Also, since you are not touching the product with your hands, it might actually be a little cleaner than normal. The applicator itself does a good job of placing the gel where you want, and it doesn't get too much on the end of it, so you don't need to worry about waste.

The gel does not have a really strong tea tree oil scent, which is good for those of you who are sensitive to that smell. Personally, it makes me think that it has very little of the key ingredient, but they might have just figured out a way to diminish the smell.

Overall, I think this is a nice product. I wish it was a little stronger, but given what it is, and the fact that it is using more natural ingredients to do it, it works well.

Aspirin Mask

Ahhh, good old fashioned, cheap, awesome mask. Chemical plus physical exfoliation meets ease of use, easy removal, and the cheapest per unit price you can ever find.

Now, many of you have heard of this mask, and this is nothing new to you, but for those of you that do not, this is a simple, easy mask, that does not take a huge chunk of money out of your wallet to have. Warnings, though: If you are sensitive or allergic to aspirin DO NOT USE! I cannot stress that enough. Enough of the aspirin can get into your system, and your health is not worth the risk.

To do: Take 4-5 aspirin uncoated aspirin tablets, since these dissolve easily. Take a little water (we're talking drops here), and place on the tablets. Let sit for about 15 seconds, then help them along by turning and crushing them with your fingers until you get a nice powder.

Here's the fun part. Mix the powder with whatever you want. If you need a moisturizing anti-acne mask, mix with yogurt or honey (my personal favorite). If you're lazy, like I am, just use more water, so that you get a paste. Seriously, as long as it can go on your face, it can probably be mixed in with the aspirin powder.

Let sit until dry, or for as long as you can handle/need it. I usually do 10-15 minutes, with the thicker parts of the mask on places like acne and my nose.

Wash off with warm water, using a little at a time, and messaging the leftover mask into your skin, which acts like a mild exfoliator. This mask is also a chemical exfoliator, so don't over do it! Use a cleanser afterwards if you need it (like after the honey mask), moisturize, and you're done! Use at most once a week, since this is a strong treatment.

How this works:
Aspirin is made of acetylsalicylic acid, a salicylate drug (salicylic acid is the most commonly known), which is a beta hydroxy acid. Beta hydroxy acids are often used for anti-acne and anti-aging cosmetics and skin care, like concealers and facial washes. By taking the drug and mixing it into a mask to apply topically, you are placing a beta hydroxy acid that is a high concentration on a targeted spot on your face, which helps exfoliate, and helps clean pores.

While this isn't the most luxurious mask on the planet, it is a great mask for people who have acne, and also for people who travel; a bottle of aspirin in your bag becomes a pain killer, an exfoliator, and a mask, all without the liquid requirements that airlines enforce, and very little bag space.

I highly recommend giving this one a try (as long as you aren't allergic). The worst that happens is you spend $1-$1.50, and get a bottle of pain medicine for your cabinet.

What I say:
First off, I think this product is being discontinued, since the Korres website doesn't list it anymore. Still, I thought it would be worth reviewing for those people who can still find it online or in person.

This is an interesting product. The smell is like watermelon candy, which I love, but many people might not like. The smell does go away pretty quickly, but it is pretty strong in the tube. The stick itself has a kinda whitish-pink color to it, which is what gives the slight highlighting effect when it is used on your skin.

The highlighting effect is there, but it isn't very noticeable, especially when the product finally dries. Speaking of drying, though, this product takes forever to dry down. When I first put it on, I looked a little greasy, which did not make me happy. It does go away in about 20-30 minutes, and since 30 minutes is how long they say to wait before going out into the sun, at least you don't look shiny in direct sunlight.

Texture-wise, this product feel like a chapstick, but a little thicker, maybe a little creamier. I would want to say how butter feels when it's cold, without the melting into liquid part. You can definitely feel this on your skin, which I don't like at all. I did one swipe on part of my face, like my nose, and then used my fingers to spread it out more, since I felt I was layering too much on when I just put it straight on my face. Even when spread out like this, I felt like I had a mask on, and when I touched my face I could feel it on my skin, like a thin greasy layer. The feeling goes down when it is dried, but it's still there.

This product does have some good points, though. Portability is really high, which is good for people who travel a lot. Since it's not a liquid, you can take this on airplanes with no problem, or at least in my area. It has SPF 30 (it claims it is UVA and B), which isn't the highest, but it is much higher than a lot of products on the market. The smell doesn't smell chemically to me, which is a plus, since I often dislike the smell of sunscreen.

Overall, I think this product is kinda bad for everyday usage, but would work well for certain people,in certain conditions, including:
Children - easy to use, easy to carry around, and they don't care about being greasy for a little bit while it dries.
Hiker - safe for body, face, eye area, and lips, it is an all in one product to carry, and it's lightweight
Travelers - I don't know about you, but I can care less what I look like when traveling, as long as I'm comfortable. Being able to carry this onto an airplane with no problem is a plus.

A side note, I actually returned this product after a few uses (and lost the pictures I took, of course... bah). I just can't get past the feeling of this, and for the price, it just isn't worth it for me.

2/5 - it has its uses, but it really could be a much better product.

End of the Month Lemmings, April

1) Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Daily Sunblock, SPF 70

Many other countries have had the joy of a runny, more liquid SPF that is not horribly expensive for a while, and it looks like Neutrogena is bringing one to these shores (I don't count BullFrog, since that's more of a gel). This price is kinda high for about 1 fl oz (I think it was $13 when I saw it online), so I'm waiting for a BOGO before I get this. Hopefully this will be good, because a liquid sunscreen is a lot easier to reapply over makeup than a gel.

2) A new sundress. Well, any sundress. I think the only two that I have are both black, with one that has blue flowers on it. Don't know how that one happened. If the weather ever decides to get warmer here, it would be a really good thing to have a sundress to wear during the summer. Problem is, with sundresses, they just don't fit in the bust. If they do, they are too big everywhere else. *Sigh*

3) Convertible pants for hiking and traveling. When you have evil siblings, every little advantage helps.

4) Anastasia Mini Duo Angled/Spooley 7

I have been trying to get this for a while, and every time I'm in the stores, it's sold out. I have only one travel sized angled liner brush, which I have been using for my brows, and really want a new angled brush, so I can use the original for liner instead. I have a travel sized flat top liner brush... I hate those things so much. They are just horrible for me. Definitely replacing that thing with the angled brush I have...

Any case, a spooley on one end to tame your brows, and an angled brush for your brow powder, all in a convenient travel size. Brilliant!

5) Dior 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow - Ready-to-Glow

Originally, I didn't care about this palette much. It looks nice, but it didn't look Dior prices nice, you know?

Then I saw Fuzz's swatch, and man, that peach with that taupe... It's just stunning. I have a couple pinks, I have browns, I have taupes (aplenty), but I have no peaches, and that taupe is unique...

This is going on my "please don't let it be sold out before I save enough, or someone gets it for me for a present" list. Knowing my luck, it will be sold out, hehe. Oh well, makeup is not life or death. There's always another peach.

What I say:
I really like this stuff! I had been interested in buying this product for a while, but could not justify the price of $28 for only 1.35 fl oz. While 1.35 fl oz is more than MUFE HD foundation, for instance, and the price is also less, at least MUFE I can test out in person, while I was flying solo with this foundation. After reading many reviews online, and finding a nice coupon for a percentage off retail, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this in color LF1, which sounded the closest to my skin tone (MUFE 115, MAC NW20).

First off, this foundation is more like a tinted moisturizer than a foundation, which is hilarious, because their Watermelon Tinted Moisturizer (which I also purchased, but am waiting for summer to use) is more like a foundation than a tinted moisturizer. Basically, if you want something light, go with the foundation, if you want something more medium, go with the tinted moisturizer.

The color selection could be worse for this product, but I goes look like it runs more on the light side, and more neutral to yellow than a lot of brands. This does make sense, though, if you look at the history of the company, and the fact that it runs more Mediterranean in its colors than other brands. The foundation is so blendable, though, that a little color mistake should not be that much of a problem.

Ginger and Vitamin's texture is kinda runny, wet, blend-able, and smooth. Applying this with your fingers is incredibly easy, and unlike Revlon's PhotoReady foundation, this did not accentuate my dry spots like a neon sign. It does cover redness decently well, but areas that have a lot of red, like around the nose, and acne scars, will need a concealer to cover. This takes a moment to sink in, but when it does, it stays put, and is hard to notice.

The finish is like skin, and I did not notice needing a powder to prevent fading, though it has been rather cold here, so I haven't been sweating. This foundation stayed on all day with no problem, and also removed very easily. The smell is not that pleasant, but it isn't horrible, and fades away really quickly.

The container for this is wonderful. It doesn't look like you get that much, but remember, unlike many foundations, this doesn't have a large lid, pump, or a thick outer container. This is a wonderful container for travel, since it takes so little room, so you can easily bring it with you for touch-ups.

I think the best thing about this foundation is how nice my skin felt after I took it off. My skin was soft, the redness I have on my cheeks actually looked diminished, and my skin felt more... nourished? Hard to describe. I had heard other people say something along these lines, but I had not believed them. I really should have, because I would have bought this a long time ago. The fact that this also has SPF in it, though not a lot, is a nice touch. I already use SPF in my moisturizer, so this is not a replacement, but every little bit helps.

Overall, I really like this, and wish I had listened to others and bought it before now. The price is kinda high, but compared to other brands, I guess it's a mid-high end, and on par. The container is nice, the foundation is great, but the color selection could have more pink and dark selections. Still, with how sheer this is, the color selection could be worse. I highly suggest getting a sample if you can.

What I say:
These are a nice. I originally purchased these after reading several reviews listing them as a nice, cheap facial wipe, that does its job, but doesn't leave a nasty film on your skin afterwards. I would have to agree with that, which is refreshing, because that means I bought I product that works as it claims it does.

The wipes themselves are soft, and are a decent size. One wipe cleans my entire face, and still can work on my neck, as well. I don't know how well this works on mascara, since I haven't been wearing that lately, but I know it took off my minimal eye makeup with no problems. It did take off my foundations and tinted moisturizers, as well, with no need to tug.

The best part about this wipe is the lack of film, and the non-stripped feeling when you are done using it. Unlike some wipes, where I feel I have to use a moisturizer afterwards, these wipes don't leave that feeling, so I really can just use this one product when I'm really lazy. The wipes are a little drier than I am used to, but they seem to be able to do their job okay. Like I stated before, though, I don't know how these would work with mascara (I have heard that they do work well), since the lack of wetness means less formula to sit on your lashes.

If I were to change anything about these, I would change the packaging. I like everything but the opening, which is just a resealable sticker, that doesn't seem like it's going to last that long. Maybe it will last the entire 30 times of opening (one for each wipe), but I'm not really sure about that.

Overall, I think these are great for the price, convenience, and quality. I actually like these a lot better than the MAC ones (that I am still using up), since the MAC ones leave a film when I'm done, and also are not really that soft feeling. Right now Target is having a sale on these, making the total price $5.99, which is even better.

What I say:
Initial impressions:
I got this foundation during a Buy One Get One Free offer from CVS, and since I didn't have anything else to get, I got two shades: 002 Vanilla, and 003 Shell. Both of them work, surprisingly, but what is strange to me is that Vanilla seems to be more sheer than Shell. With Shell, my redness is just gone, with Vanilla it is lessened, but not completely gone. Strange that Shell acts like a foundation, and Vanilla acts more like a tinted moisturizer. So far have not noticed the "Cullen" affect, as some people call it, but it is so overcast today that it just could be because there is no sun out. The foundation applied evenly with fingers, and dried to a nice finish. Not dewy, not matte, either, just kinda skin-like. It does show any dry patches easily, so moisturizing beforehand is a must. Came off easily with my cleansing oil, but what doesn't?

Second attempt:
Man, do not apply this in a rush with your fingers unless you are really used to this formula. This definitely looked like makeup when I did that, and I had to remove it and start over (which did not help the rush, hehe). Definitely my fault, I think. Shaking the bottle really heavily before application on 002 Vanilla seemed to help with the liquidy-ness of the product, something that I did not have to do to 003 Shell (I mean as much, of course). Noticed the shimmers that people are talking about only at a certain angle while making an extremely stupid face, hehe. I have heard some speculation that Revlon actually released two formulations of this foundation as a test, and that some areas got the more shimmery one, while others got a much less shimmery formulation. This would explain the mixed reviews, and also explain why the colors that sold out faster and were replaced (most likely with the less shimmery formula that people liked) have been getting better reviews later in the release.

Later attempts:
The more I use this, the more it becomes apparent that this foundation is the mortal enemy of dead skin flakes. Seriously, if you think you have no flakes, put this foundation on, and then give yourself a look in the mirror. Finish is still nice, if it isn't putting a neon sign to dry patches, but I think it is a little cakey at times. Tried to use a kabuki, fingers, and damp sponge. So far, the brush seems to be the winner.

Final conclusions:
I wish I could find my receipt to return this product, but I think my husband recycled it when I wasn't looking. I'm not saying this product is horrible, it just doesn't work for me. The color selection is decent enough, and since it is so sheer, you can get away with a color not being perfect, as long as it is kinda close to begin with. The shimmer effect that people talk about online seems to be a batch to batch issue, and personally I have not had a problem with either bottles that I bought. Yes, I did go outside in full sunlight. Yes, I did try flash. Maybe I got lucky? Who knows.

The finish is like a more matte foundation with an illuminator underneath it, or perhaps something like Vanilla pigment mixed in a little. Like I stated before, I might have gotten lucky with the batch that I bought, but that's what it seemed like to me. The foundation stayed on all day for me, but there was a little fading around the T-zone. Layering blush, powder, highlighter, and bronzer, did not cause cakeyness most of the time, but I do highly suggest letting this foundation sit before doing so. Layering concealer, on the other hand, sometimes lead to a nightmare situation where I would get a cakey problem going on, and smoothing it out just made it look worse.

I think the worst thing about this foundation is how it reacted to any patchiness or dry skin on my face. It would gather onto that patch and look absolutely horrible, much worse than any other foundation that I have ever tried. Using a damp sponge to apply didn't seem to help, and neither did using a sponge afterwards to blend it out. Absolutely horrible. Seriously, I almost feel like I should use this to find spots on my face that I didn't exfoliate, but I would have to rub my skin raw to get it to the point this foundation would work.

Like I stated before, I really with I could find my receipt, since $14 for this foundation (and remember what I said before, I bought two) is way, way too much. In the meantime, though, I am probably going to give my mother the darker on, and use the lighter one under my eyes as an illuminator, since it seems like it would work well like that. Maybe in the summer, when my skin seems to be in a little better condition, I will try using this again, but in the meantime, I think it is an overhyped foundation that the makers did not test correctly (shimmer), and that does not favor people who don't have perfect skin to begin with (dry patch gathering and sheerness).

Guerlain Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl Liner 06 Mirage

What I say:
I have reviewed these kohls before, but this is the new limited edition shade, so I thought I should post a separate review for those interested before it sells out.

This shade is Brun, but without the sparkle. I did have a swatch of the two together, but it didn't turn out that good, unfortunately. There is no slight variation of the shades, there's no background color difference, Mirage is Brun without the shimmer, period.

Brun happened to be my favorite of the kohls, so this wasn't a bad thing for me, since I don't always like shimmer, but really, the difference when worn was minimal, at best. They wore for the same amount of time (not surprising), and if anything could be said, I would say the shimmer of Brun makes it look maybe the slightest bit lighter in bright lighting, if that.

If you have Brun, you probably don't need Mirage. If you have neither, you might want to pick up the LE Mirage first, since you can always find Brun later if you like the color.

What I say:
1st use, 12th of March:
I got this on sale from CVS for $9, which is a massive discount (normal price from them is $14.99 as of this writing). The wand seems really strange to use. I haven't used other mascaras/serums with a wand like this, so it is probably from lack of practice. The wand is kinda mailable, so it doesn't poke your lash line when running along the top lashes, and also lacks the bristles that a normal mascara wand had; it kinda looks like a mantis arm to me, if that makes sense. It claims that this serum is not recommended for the lower lash line, but I think when put on your upper lash line, some of it will get there anyway. I haven't noticed any stinging, but it is not that comfortable while drying. Nothing harsh, just kinda... uncomfortable. It does clump my lashes together, because they are so wet with the serum, so I have no idea how this could be used as a primer. Maybe if you comb it out first after it dries? I really have no goals for this serum, so if it does anything, it will be a bonus. I'm still a little apprehensive, since I don't want to mess with my normal lash cycle, but at the price, I thought it would be worth checking out something like this, even just once.

Almost a week later, 18th of March:
I have not noticed any improvement, really, but my lashes don't seem to be having the harsh side-affects that some people say they experienced. I have noticed, on the other hand, a couple lashes falling out. This might just be my paranoid mind being extra attentive to my lashes during this experiment, but if I have noticed 2 lashes falling out, there are probably others that I have not noticed. So far, my lashes are still full, though, so I will continue to just keep an eye on the situation. I have gotten noticeably better at using the wand, which is a plus, and have been using this opportunity to work with applying eyeliner and mascara with my left hand, since this stuff dries completely clear. Might as well multitask, hehe. The clumping on the ends of my lashes has started to diminish, most likely from my getting better at using the wand. I have noticed that if I let my lashes dry a considerable length of time, it might be possible to apply mascara over the top, but I have yet to try this.

Two weeks, 26th of March:
Missed a couple days (because I'm lazy, okay ;P). I have definitely gotten the technique down to apply this, so basically no flakes in the morning. Still am not using this in the morning, only at night. Have still not noticed a dramatic improvement, but the lash fallout has disappeared, and I think my lashes in the inner corner of my eyes appear to be a little thicker. Lower lashes also appear to be a little thicker than I remember. While the number of lashes that I have remains the same, they seems more conditioned, and in a little better shape than before I started this treatment.

Week 3, 4th of April:
Well, technically I'm in week 4, but ;P. The bald spot that I have on my left eye on the top and bottom lid (think of if you sliced with the eye closed) is still there. I still have the occasional eyelash fall out, but since my eyelashes don't seem to be getting sparser, am still just watching in case the rate increases. My lashes do seem just the tiniest bit longer, more than I noticed before, so this treatment might actually be working, just not the miracle working that others seem to have. I am starting to draw the theory that this product works best on those who's eyelashes would normally look really nice, but who have done damage to them, in some form or another, that prevents them from looking nice normally.

Week 4, the end of the adventure:
So I finally stopped using this product after noticing a number of eyelashes had fallen off at the same time on one eye. After a few days of not using the serum, I have noticed no more eyelashes falling out, so all of that guessing from before was correct; this product was the cause, and it was not paranoia on my part.

While I did notice a slight increase in the thickness and length of my eyelashes, the number of lashes falling out neutralized any positive words I could say about this serum. I cannot say if it was a mild allergic reaction that caused the problems that I had, or if it was a common side affect of this serum that many others, besides myself, have had, but I can say that it is more than a little disconcerting to wake up in the morning without rubbing your eyes, and seeing 3 lashes waiting on your face when you look in the mirror before washing your face.

Overall, I would have to say that I neither liked nor disliked this product. This is a conditioning serum, not a lash growing one, and it more than does what it claims. For many, the fact that they are giving their lashes some much needed conditioning attention is probably why this product works, for others it might be that they respond well to the ingredients. As for myself, I do not respond enough to warrent the price, time, and side effects that I have to endure to see any results.

While this does not work for me, if you can find it on sale, I suggest giving this a try. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that this works well on. For $9, which is what I paid, if it works, it is more than worth its price.

What I say:
This is really good stuff, and I can see why people are always raving about it. Without using this fast dry top coat, my polish takes a decent amount of time, maybe 5 minutes, to get to the point where I feel comfortable touching anything without my polish smudging, denting, or just becoming a mess in general. Using this stuff, I swear I was able to touch stuff in about 1-2 minutes. That's a very large difference when you need to get back to work. I normally wear 4 coats (base, two coats of color, top), so adding another coat to my normal polish routine, and actually having it decrease dry time, is a great thing.

Wear is pretty good. I don't really know how long it wears by itself, since I would never just put something like this on bare nails, but it seems to wear about the same amount of time for me as normal polish. It did seem to make my nails more glossy, which I like, but people going for a matte look might not like that side effect.

The smell is a little weird. I can't quite place it, but it doesn't quite smell like normal nail polish. I think the color lingered for a little while, but that might have been the rest of the polish that I was wearing at the time,

Overall, I am very impressed with this product. I do wish it was a little cheaper, but I guess waiting for a sale because purchasing more will have to be good enough.

1) Reebok EasyTone

My primary form of exercise is walking/hiking (I live on a very steep hill), and my walking shoes are finally starting to die on me. These shoes claim to feel like walking on sand, causing your muscles to compensate for the instability that that entails. More muscle engagement during the same amount of time doing the same exercise? Sounds good to me. A little pricey at 100-110, depending on the style, but they should last me a decent amount of time.

2) Dior 'Addict' Ultra-Gloss Reflect Backups

I have heard word that this gloss is being discontinued to make way for a new formulation. While I can't say if this news is 100% correct, I do know that Sephora.com is already not carrying some of the colors, including my favorite, so there might be something to this story. Unfortunately, my favorite gloss is in this line, so I need to stoke up on at least a couple to last me through the summer until I find a replacement favorite.

3) Guerlain Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl - Mirage

This is the newest color from Guerlain for their Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl, and it seems to look a lot like the Oriental Metal that I missed out on. I find the black to be a little harsh, so having another color that I can wear during the day sounds great to me. It is currently available on Nordstrom, but the swatch online is total crap, like usual, hehe.

4) Freeman Feeling Beautiful Facial Enzyme Mask, Pineapple

This mask claims "Pineapple extract and AHAs exfoliate, Restores radiant skin, Contains natural ingredients," all things that sounds really good. It also smells like pineapple, which is like saying something smells like chocolate or mint... I'm all over it. Being cheap at only $4 for a 6 fl oz bottle, this is also a mask that you don't have to feel bad using up quickly. I can't wait until I use up my current masks to give this one a try.

5) Bonne Bell Glimmer Bronze Highlighting Dust, Gold'n Glitz

I have no loose powder bronzer. Sad, but true. I also have no highlighting/shimmery bronzer that I can just dust lightly over my face. This bronzer would cover both of those needs, and at only $4, it won't break the bank, unlike NARS. The only problem is that no one in my area carries Bonne Bell anymore (which is really sad, because I grew up buying from this brand). This one is going to have to wait until my next drugstore.com purchase.

What I say:
I definitely like this stuff a lot better than Orly's nail polishes.

I bought this to take the place of my old top and bottom coat, since I think it was reaching the end of its life, and I didn't really like it to begin with. The ratings that I saw online seemed good, and the price was right, so I decided to give this a go.

First off, the bottle is really nice. Like Orly nail polishes, the handle of the brush is rubberized, making it very comfortable to use. The rest of the bottle is just pretty standard, but the handle is great. The brush is pretty small, but that could be a good or bad thing, depending on preference. I didn't find it hard to work with, but I would have liked it to be a little bit larger.

The formula itself is pretty good. It dries quickly, which means I can put my next layer on as soon as I get back to that nail (I go in a circle). The base/top coat dries clear, with a slight glossy sheen, though I would say that the sheen was less than what I saw with Seche Vite.

The smell is standard, but I think it is actually a little less than normal. I don't go around just sniffing my nail polishes, though, so I'm not really sure, hehe.

I can't really say how the wear is just alone with this, since I was also using Seche Vite, but I do know it is higher than OPI's top coat. This lasted 2 days on me before my polish started to chip on the ends, but to be fair, that's pretty amazing considering how rough I am with my hands. As a base coat, this worked amazingly well, helping to bind my polish to my nails like no other.

Overall, I recommend checking this top and bottom coat out. It's worth the price, since you get two products in one, and actually lasts a respectable amount on nails that see a bit of action.

What I say:
Man, this nail polish is great. I was able to find it on Sally Beauty, though I have seen it other places online, and was really looking forward to when it arrived. I'm really happy I ordered this nail polish, because I think it is even more beautiful in person than it is in pictures or online!

For Audrey is described by many as being "Tiffany blue." I can't say for certain if that is correct, since I really don't know what Tiffany blue is supposed to look like, but I think this is more of a turquoise blue (real turquoise, not the fake, painted stuff). It is a lovely light blue, which I think would work better in the spring and summer months. Some might also describe it as a sky blue, but I think it's a little too light for that myself.

Two coats of this was more than enough to make it opaque, but one coat was a little streaky. Wish there was a way to make 1.5 coats happen, hehe. Once on, this stuff stays true to color when drying, and seems to have better chip-tolerance than many nail polishes that I have tried. It is not a fast-drying nail polish, but it is not one that takes forever, either. Pretty average.

Overall, I'm really happy I tracked this polish down. I can see myself using this a lot, and a bottle of this is really worth it's price (unlike, say, YSL. I don't care what you say, unless the thing can cure some sort of disease, $20 for a bottle of polish is just insane).

MUFE Kabuki Brush

What I say:
I actually got this a while ago when it came in a set with the MUFE HD powder, so I didn't pay full price for this. I wish the set came with the travel pouch, but it's not really a problem.

This brush is incredibly soft. Like, I want to have my bedding be this soft, soft. It's also pretty small. I was surprised when I saw it in person just how small it was, since I'm used to seeing larger kabuki brushes. I'm not saying it's tiny, because it is not, it's just a little smaller than most.

The brush head is made from nylon, though is looks like it is made of hair from the pictures online. This means that it takes a while to dry, since I swear all synthetic brushes like to take their sweet time drying. I haven't noticed shedding from mine, which is a plus, but even good quality brushes are known to shed the first 6 or so times you wash them, so until it is past that stage, you can't really judge anyway. Still, no shedding, so yay.

I think that this is best used with powder, like foundation, setting, blush... well, any powder, really. I do not think it works well with cream or liquid, though. Some kabuki brushes work well with those formulas, and maybe others have had better luck than I have, but I think the softness of this brush actually make it really hard to apply and blend those formulas evenly.

Overall, I'm happy I purchased this brush. I'm not sure if I didn't already have this if I would pay full price for it, though. It is rather small, and it only really works for powders, which I'm not always using. It is rather soft, and feels great on your skin, but being limited to only using powder foundation, or just using it for setting powder, seems like a bit of a waste to me. This is from someone who likes her brushes to multitask, though. If you are fine with a brush that can only do one thing, by all means check this one out in person.

Max Factor Volume Couture Waterproof Mascara

What I say:
While I absolutely did not like the 2000 Calorie mascara from this company, I will be sad to see this one go. I originally got this because my brother's graduation was during the winter, and I knew it was going to be really rainy. Since I didn't want to look like a raccoon, I decided to pick up a waterproof mascara, and since it was on sale, I went ahead and bought the Max Factor one, even though the last mascara that I bought from them was pretty bad (but, hey, so are most L'Oreal mascaras, but I like some of them).

Initial impressions were good. This mascara is wet, but not sticking my lashes together wet. The formula was black, not grey, and is indeed waterproof. Unlike, say, Japanese brand mascaras, though, this does come off rather easily with makeup remover, so at the end of the day, you don't have to rub a whole lot to get it all off (not that I do that anyway. I let my makeup remover sit for a bit before trying to take the mascara off). As mentioned, the formula is wet, so it does take a couple more seconds than dryer formulas to get to the point where it doesn't transfer to your upper/lower lid when you blink. Just resist the urge to blink, and you'll be fine. This tube also didn't dry out quickly, which I've had some mascaras do to me. I'm reaching the 3 month mark, and it is still perfectly usable.

The wand is a nice rubber type, not too long, not too short, and definitely not too soft. The end gets to my inner and outer corners without hassle, so I'm able to get all of my lashes with relative ease. It also doesn't cause clumping on my bottom lashes when I try and put mascara there, which is a large plus for me.

I didn't notice too much length or volume being added with this mascara, but I wasn't adding more than one layer most of the time. While I don't think it adds much volume or length on its own, I do think it would make a nice layering mascara. Just add the mascara with the qualities you want to your lashes, and then at the end put this one on top to get a waterproof coating to prevent running/smudging. Kinda like using an umbrella when it rains.

I actually like the tube design for this mascara. It's not too large, which is a plus for traveling people, and the added blue band so you know it is the waterproof formula at a glance is a nice touch. It does get scratched easily, but why would you be staring at your mascara tube enough to care?

Overall, I'm happy with this mascara, and will miss it when it leaves, since waterproof mascara and I normally don't get along too well. Hopefully Covergirl (who is owned by the same company as Max Factor) has a mascara similar enough for me to enjoy.

Clinique All About Eyes Cream

What I say:
I actually got this as a gift with purchase (from my mom), so this is a freebe for me. Would I actually buy it? No, probably not.

The texture is a thick cream, of the sort that you have to warm up before you try to put it on your eye area. It is creamy, slightly liquidy when warm, and seems to absorb, but does take a little while. Nice for nighttime use, but day users might think it takes a little too long before they can put anything else on that area. It claims to be able to hold makeup in place... yeah, I don't really think so. This seems to be way too creamy to be able to do that, and might actually help in the destruction of your eyeliner and mascara. Maybe if your eye area absorbed it to the point that it isn't even there anymore, but at that point how can it help to keep makeup on?

Once this cream absorbs, the area around the eyes is nicely moisturized, but nothing dramatic. This is a good cream for someone who has dry skin, but not Sahara dry skin. My husband actually suffers from dry skin in the winter around his eyes, so I have been using this on his eye area, and it really seemed to help.

There is no really detectable smell, which is a plus for me. The color is kinda a pink fleshy color, but it is completely clear when it is melted and absorbing. There is no shimmer, or other reflective properties, to this cream, so this won't help with making your eye area look more refreshed except by making it more hydrated.

"Diminishes the appearance of eye puffs, darkness, fine lines." Didn't see any of that. Eye puffiness is one of the few things I don't suffer from, so I pass on discussing that, but darkness? No help there. My undereyes are are dark as they ever were (well, a little less dark, but that's because of another eyecream). Fine lines? A yes, and a no. Fine lines being permanently gone requires more than this eye cream can give. Fine lines being temporarily gone because your skin is more plump from hydration, on the other hand, this can actually do. I did notice a little help in this field, but I would expect that help from any hydrating cream.

Overall, I would not repurchase this eye cream. That is not to say that it is rubbish, it just isn't good enough for the price, and honestly, with how often it is thrown into gifts with purchase from this company, I really don't think anyone really needs to pay money for this, since you can get a pretty large sample for free that way. My husband does still enjoy this cream, and I think it's alright for when my eye area is in need of extra moisture, but otherwise, this is a pass.

One last thing I can say about this is that I never had breakouts around my eye area from this. Thought that might help someone, hehe.

Bobbi Brown Corrector

Use fingers or the Concealer Brush to apply up to the lashline and into the inner corner of the eye. Smooth and blend by gently patting with the pads of your fingers. Follow with a layer of your regular Creamy Concealer shade."

What I say:
First off, for those of you who are really pale, and have a pink undertone, there is absolutely no reason that you have to use a concealer with this. Bobbi Brown's concealers and foundations are known to be more yellow base than a lot of people can handle, while the correctors have a more pink base or salmon base to them, depending on the shade that you get.

That said, this product is a lifesaver for me, since I have what are known as "dark circles of doom" inherited from "dark circle genes of doom." I cannot escape the look of perpetual sleep deprevation, so for me, something like a opaque concealer or corrector is manditory. This corrector definitely fits the bill, and does so with a few perks.

Perk 1) This has a mirror in it. That might not mean much to some of you, but for those of us that travel a lot, having a mirror in the lid of a concealer or corrector is very convenient when stuck in an airplane seat, and needing to do your makeup so you don't look like a zombie upon landing at your destination. Also, it is great for touchups at your desk, or in the car, or at your SO's... you get the idea.

Perk 2) While being small, a little goes a long way. This will last you a long time, and doesn't dry out quickly like a gel eyeliner/cream eyeshadow might. Which leads to...

Perk 3) The small size makes it great for your purse/makeup bag. Small, light, and convenient.

This corrector does its job well. It applies easily when it is warmed with your fingers, or when warmed on your skin before blending. I haven't noticed it migrating into fine lines when applied in a thin layer, but if it is applied too thickly, it can start to rebel. This layers well with others, but anything too hard/dry on top can cause it to be pulled off of where you applied it. I wouldn't call that a flaw of this product, since it was the other one that did it, but it is something to watch out for.

This does last a decent amount of time, but I usually put a powder on top of it, so I'm not sure how it would fair on its own. It doesn't get cakey with powder on top of it, so I just go ahead and do it every time, since I'm powdering my t-zone anyway.

Overall, this is a good product. I can't think of anything I would change about this product, which is not something I can say for many things. Like I said before, a little of this goes a long way, so while the size is kinda small, I do feel that it is worth the money.

Shiseido Tsubaki Conditioner

What I say:
Part two!

As I stated in my earlier post, this stuff is moisturizing. After rinsing out my hair of all the shampoo, I take 1.5 pumps of this, put it all over (except at my scalp), and wait a few minutes. Now, when you see the size of the pumps of this, you will think that it will not be enough conditioner to really, well, condition your hair. This is not the case. Not only will adding the amount of conditioner you normally would be overkill, it would also weigh down your hair too much, because this does, in fact, have oil in it, and without cleansing that out, you would just have lots of oil on your scalp.

This stuff is thick. Normal conditioner that you might be used to is a little runny. This stuff is the boiled down cream that normal conditioner wishes it could be. While this is nice for your hair, it is a little of a pain to spread evenly. I suggest leaving in a little more water than you normally do in your hair to give it something to slip with when spreading this out.

The smell of this is really nice, and stronger than the shampoo. Again, you might not like this, but I thought it was nice. To me, at least, it's not a headachey, annoying smell. When it is washed out of your hair, it is also still noticeable, but in a more in the background like a candle at the other side of the room way, or perhaps even fainter than that. The smells does go away, so don't worry about having your hair permanently smell like this conditioner, having to wave flies away from your hair, or anything else associated with conditioner smell that over stayed its welcome.

Washing this out is surprisingly easy, considering the texture and thickness when applying. What's left behind is nice soft hair, much softer than how my hair feels after using most high end brands.

As far as shine from this goes, it's really nice. Not over the top, more natural than a lot of shine products. This looks more like your hair is healthy, less like your put a product in it to make it look that way.

One last thing to note is that my hair has not needed to be cleansed more often with this combination. Even though this has Camellia oil in it, a lot of conditioners have oil in them, so this is not a new concept. This difference in this product and others is the type of oil, not that it has any. Camellia oil is said to be the closest oil to natural human oil, and therefore absorbs better into the skin/hair. I haven't done tons of research into those claims, but I have noticed Camellia oil and my body getting along better than a lot of other, thicker, oils, so maybe there's something to that.

4/5, might repurchase, unless something better comes along.

Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo

What I say:
This shampoo is wonderful.

Normally, I'm a drugstore shampoo and conditioner person, with the occational splurges on higher end (usually from my mom). Drugstore shampoo and conditioner has serves me well, and for the most part, higher end brands tend to just show me that they are not worth the price, and that I shouldn't waste my money on them. The exception, of course, being leave in conditioner, but that's not this post.

That being said, I suffer from what I would call not quite dry hair. My scalp gets oily at a normal rate, but the rest of my hair gets dry rather quickly, and is always in need of a little helping hand. Shampoo, unfortunately, does not normally have this as a choice when you are looking at what they do. Most companies tend to look at the scalp, and not really look much at the rest of the hair shaft, except in terms of frizz, split ends, etc.

I got this shampoo because I finally thought "enough is enough." I had heard good things about this, mostly from MakeupAlley, so I thought I would give it a go. I already use Camellia (also known at Tsubaki) oil in my hair for shine (when it needs it), so I knew basically what to expect. Last time I was at Nigiya (love that market, by the way), I look the plunge, and bought the shampoo and conditioner.

The first this I noticed was the texture, which is not really as runny as a lot of shampoos I have tried. The color what a nice pearly white, which I have always liked (not only in shampoo).

The smell... mmmmmm. Camellia flowers. I can tell that a lot of people might be put off by the smell, but for me, it was nice and refreshing. It also lasts quite a long time, so I enjoyed that, as well.

This stuff really suds up, with 1.5 pumps being enough for my hair (scientific binary search to find the right amount). The smells sticks with you during the sudsing, so good times for me. My hair got really clean, really fast, but without the usual stripping of all oils that I normally associate with really clean hair. This is one shampoo that not only cleans, it also moisturizes, if only a little.

This rinsed out nicely from my hair, and left it ready for round two (to come later).

I have heard a number of people say that this label causes buildup in their hair, and that it weighs it down. I have used this exclusively for over 2 weeks, and have had no problems of that sort, even with long, thin, lots of, hates volume hair. I did notice a little lack of volume at my roots compared to normal shampoos that I am used to, but just changing drying technique and how I lay my hair at night has solved this without the addition of other products.

One last note, I love the packaging. I got the large pump bottles, and the amount that they release is actually an amount that people might really use. If I had short hair, one pump would be perfect. Also, Shiseido makes refills (400ml) that are cheaper than the pump bottles, so yay!

Let's see what lemmings I got this month...

1) L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Boosting Serum

I have naturally thicker, longer than normal lashes, but who doesn't like the idea of even nicely, longer, thicker, healthier ones? I don't wear mascara all that often, since it can damage my eyelashes, so I don't think I'm who this is really geared towards, but the idea is still nice. Also, the price, $12.50, is pretty nice for a product that claims to do that it does. Probably won't end up getting this one, or its cousin, but still.

2) L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara - Black

Meet the cousin of above, hehe. Now this I might actually look into, since it would help protect, condition, strengthen, and prevent lash fall out while you are wearing the very thing that often leads to needing those things in the first place. $10.50 at a lot of the places I have looked, that's really not that much, especially when combined with sales (which is what I am waiting for). I like the original (red) double extend mascara, so as long as this is just as good, I think I'll be happy.

3) Rouge Bunny Rouge - Bronzing Glow Powder - As if it were summer still...

At £41.00, this is one lemming that I don't think I'll ever have satisfied (especially with the £15 in shipping to the USA). I saw this on The Gloss Goss, later on the page I linked, and it was love at first site. Normally I'm not the hugest bronzing person, but the blendability of this, combined with nice ingredients... *sigh*. Like I said, though, never gonna happen. A person can always dream, though (or set a goal, which is what I'm trying to do, but probably am going to fail).

4) POPBeauty Petal Jam

These just look so lovely. "This unique lip-loving bloom-balm binds hydration to the lips restoring the natural moisture barrier. A powerful mix of Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E, protects and nourishes lips. Yeah, I don't think I need to say anything else, hehe.

5) The Body Shop Fuzzy Peach Bath & Shower Gel

I actually just got a bottle of this recently, but the lemming is for backups. I have been a customer of The Body Shop since I was a little kid (1993, actually), and I remember this gel so well. I happened to go to my local store (which is far away, so I don't get to go often), and knew I had to get this. I wonder how long they will have it before they get rid of it again...

What I say:
I originally got a sample of this at Nordstroms, when I went to return the Guerlain blush that was such a failure. I also, at that time, bought this product with the gift card that I got as the return. The reason I did both? Because this was completely sold out, so I needed to get a sample until the item I bought could be shipped out. Have I mentioned how much I love the customer service at the Nordstroms I go to (Arden Fair mall)?

I ended up getting this concealer in Camée, which, depending on what site you look at, is the second or third shade, going light to dark. I actually don't think that it is that dark, but more salmon than the other light shade in that row, Light Buff, which looks more yellow to me. Ivory, while I could pull it off, would not look quite right on my skin, being more of an undereye concealer color, or maybe a sallowness corrector, when compared to my flesh color. Actually, Camée is a tad darker than I would call perfect, but nothing that blending doesn't fix, so not even this one is really a good match. At least it's not yellow (or reverse panda). This line could use a lot more options.

The texture of this is like a whipped cream, not like a whipped foundation. It's thin, but highly pigmented, and when warmed becomes more liquidy. Blending this is a dream, and it layers nicely. It doesn't layer wonderfully, though, so if you need to add a lot of layers, you might need something thicker. This concealer also plays nicely with others, layering over my Bobbi Brown corrector without a problem.

This can look a little cakey if you add too much, mostly when you go to add a powder on top, since the powder will stick to the concealer like wasps to a soda. This can be solved with a little more blending, which this thing is a champeon at, so no real problem there. It also doesn't like scabs, you know the ones, so watch it with those.

Like I stated before, this is really pigmented stuff. The sample that I got is still going, and I haven't even opened (to use) the one that I purchased. To give you an idea of the pigmentation, I had a that-time-of-the-month breakout of doom on my chin. Red, large, more red, you know the type. This stuff covered it, not completely, but to the point that it looked more like a faded scar. I did not use foundation, I did not load this stuff on, and I did the covering in a hurry. This stuff is strong.

The lasting power of this is really good. Put this on, set it with a little powder, and away you go. I never had to retouch, and it never started to slip off, or just disappear. There is one thing that I noticed, though; watch it if you wear glasses. I need them to drive, and happened to have a mark at the nose piece that needed to be covered. While this did cover it, every time I wore my glasses for a decent (hour) amount of time, I would have to reblend the concealer at that spot. It was still there, still blendable, still going strong, it had just started to gather around the outside of the nose piece. Just thought I should point that out.

Also, I break out semi-easily. I put this on the zit of doom, it didn't make it worse, or prolong it. I wore it on just discoloration, no new zits, breakouts, nothing. Good stuff.

Oh, and SPF in a concealer that can go under your eyes? I like.

Guerlain Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl Liner

What I say:
After that review I did on their blush, I thought I would review something from Guerlain that I did not think totally sucked. Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl Liner (henceforth known as "kohl") is a decent product, but one that is not an immediate success, unless you know what you are doing.

First, the video link: how to apply kohl the Eastern way.

As you can see from that video, the way that this shines is the fact that you can put it on your waterline very quickly, without any tools but the one that came with it, and basically without a mirror (if you get good enough at it). Yes, it does look a bit scary, but after having done this a number of times myself, I can attest to the fact that it is in fact not painful at all, and actually really simple to do. If you can put on contacts, you are more than capable of doing this maneuver. Hell, contacts are scarier, since you aren't watching this with the eye you are doing it with.

This power does not hurt at all when it gets in your eyes. I have gotten it in my eyes a lot, and never felt a thing. The powder does end up in your inner corners of your eyes, but you can just take that out when it gets there.

Lasting power: it's good. I do notice a little migration if I don't prep properly beforehand, but that's my own fault, and the fault of my slightly oily, watery eyes. This stuff, when it finally migrates to my lash area (which it does, but seriously, it looks like you meant it to be there, and just makes your lashes pop), does not want to leave. Oil cleanser can take care of it, and it is easier to get off than mascara, but sheesh, it can be a bastard.

Colors are limited, but the ones that I have tried are nice (brown and black). I want to get my hands on 00 Glow and 04 Oriental Metal.

Price is ludicrous, until you think of how little you are using each time. You're supposed to tap off the excess back into the jar, so really, all you are using is what little powder sticks to the plastic stick, which is basically nothing. Yes, it's only 1g, but it lasts a really long time.

Which actually leads me to my next point. Sanitizing. You sanitize a eyeliner pencil by sharpening. You sanitize eyeliner pressed powder by spray and wiping off the outer layer. How do you sanitize this? The key is the stylus. It is hard plastic, which is incredibly easy to sanitize. Just wipe it off/sanitize it after each eye, and before putting it back in the product. Since it is hard plastic, unlike a brush, it dried pretty much immediately. If you are uncomfortable doing that, using a toothpick that you rounded the edge off is something that I have read online, though I have not tried that myself, so don't quote me on that.

So, overall, do I feel it's worth it for the price? Well, yes, and no. Kohl that is safe, and lead free, is actually harder to locate than you might think. Colors are nearly impossible to find. While this stuff is quite expensive, I look at it in more than one part:
1) It come with its own applicator, which is convenient.
2) It comes with its own nice looking container, which is nearly unheard of.
3) It is safe for your eyes, unlike many kohls and kajals on the market (that are easily accessible).
4) A little does last a really long time.
5) It does not contain lead.

So yes, I do think it's worth it, at least as a gift.

Make Up For Ever: HD Microfinish Powder

What I say:
I've had, and used, this powder for a while, and have to say that I really like it. There is no whiteish cast, it lasts all day, and it helps control the oil on my T-zone, which really is all I ask in a powder.

The texture is a very finely milled powder, like powdered sugar, that feels cool when applied to the skin (at least it does to me). A little goes a really long way with this one, so tapping off the excess from your brush is a must. I use a MAC 187 (or equivalent) for this one, since I want it to be as light of a layer as possible, and the effect is a non-noticeable layer of powder. Many people online say that they get a white cast when using this. I have not noticed this myself, and wonder if it might be a difference in application techniques.

MUFE HD powder sets my base makeup beautifully, without the cakey look that can often be associated with a setting powder. On top of this, I do notice a difference between when I set with this powder and when I do not in terms of lasting powder, and oiliness starting to show through. I would say that it mattifies the skin, like they claim, but it doesn't cause a dewy foundation to go straight to matte.

The price, while steep, I feel is actually worth it. I use a small container for travel for this powder, and leave the rest in the container until I need to refill the container I use. One small travel thing of this powder (think the size of container that you get for samples) lasts me several months, and the jar holds a lot of these containers. There are dupes online of pure silica powder, which have a much lower price tag, but without trying them, I cannot say if they are worth it or not. Part of what makes this powder so nice is how finely milled it is, and that's something you cannot tell from a picture online.

If there is one thing I don't like about this powder it would be the container it comes in. The holes on the sifter are far too large, allowing way too much powder to come out of them. That's one of the reasons I use a travel container, since I have all but one of the holes closed in it. If I were to change anything, I would make it one of those sifters that looks like a fine mesh instead of a piece of plastic with large holes. The powder would be easier to get back into the container without opening it up completely, and less of the powder would be at the top, waiting for the person who is not paying 100% concentration on opening this powder to come along.

Overall, I highly recommend, especially if you can get a sample, which would last you at least a couple weeks.

How do I love boots?

Let me count the ways.

Boots and I go way back, to even before I cared at all for dressing up on occasion, or anything of the sort.

Back in highschool I would wear nothing but boots, except in gym, where I had to wear tennis shoes. Most of these were hiking boots, but still, boots. There's just something about them that makes me happy, like a pair of cozy socks, or a bowl of soup.

Later came... the craving. I started buying more types of boots, from little booties to full blown knee high motorcycle boots (which I waterproofed, and made into my rain boots. They can't handle a deep puddle, but they can handle rain and small puddles). Most of my boots are black, but there is the occasional brown or tan boot that makes an appearance.

So why all this talk about boots? Because boot season is starting to come to a close, and I am giddy with excitement. While most people see this as a good day because they can finally whip out their flip flops (never cared for those, myself), I see it as the day to go bargain hunting, and find boots at an even cheaper price! Bwahahahaha!

I never stop wearing the boots; I just start bringing the occasional sandal or non-boot dress shoe with me. You know... in case.

Guerlain 'Cherry Blossom Blush Éclat' Compact

What I say:
Did not like this at all, and actually returned it.

I bought this blush, after countless reviews read, and swatches looked at, thinking that maybe I could get it to work. The blush is a light pink down the middle, with peach on the outsides, and a darker pink over spray to get the blossoms to appear. The spray itself does not last long, but I expected that, hearing that the blush underneath was a peach-pink, mattish, nice shade.

I believed them. That is, I believed them, until I got the blush.

Now, let's start with the packaging. The packaging is quite lovely, and if the blush wasn't rubbish, I might have kept it for this alone. It's sturdy like a solid wood desk; large, beautiful, understated, and can take a thrashing. It clicks shut nicely, and has a certain weight to it that makes you feel like you could lob it at someone, and it would be fine. In fact, this turned out to be a good thing, because it came almost damaged. I say "almost" because if it had not been for the packaging, it would have been damaged. The outer container that housed this was trashed, ripped, and in an overall mess. The shipping box was too large, and the padding was not nearly enough. I'll hand it to Nordstrom, they didn't care when I brought it in in person to show them, and refunded it no problem.

The blush looked rather small, but some math (which I deleted, sorry) showed me that it was because the opening to the blush was rather small, but the blush should, if I was correct, be deeper than the blushes that I was used to. It was still not the best deal per ounce, but I was paying for the quality, and for the fact that I was also getting a new brand. So size wise, it could be worse.

The blush itself, texture wise, was okay. It's not the smoothest, it's not the least chalky, and it's not the most pigmented. It's nice in all three of those, but not really that great. I think it is safe to say, that at least in the blush department, you are paying for packaging and name more than you are paying for the actual product.

Now the kicker, the color. Too light. In MAC terms, the universal language, almost, of color, I am a NW20 in the summer. I'm near that in winter, as well, since I don't like to go out in the sun, but I'm still never darker than NW20. This was too light for me. It might have been a nice highlighter, but I have those, and really did not need another light pink, sheer, and especially, extremely expensive, highlighter. I was paying for a blush. I am still in awe of how light this product was. If you want to see a great swatch of it, look at Karla's post, which also shows the rest of the collection. I swear it was lighter than that in person, but that's probably a difference in the lighting.

So, sadly, or not so sadly, I returned this blush, and used the money that I got back to get myself a concealer, which I am still testing out before I review.

Overall, I have not turned my back on this brand, yet. After feeling the packaging, I really want to try something else from this brand, but this time, I want to get something that I know will work (I actually thought the blush would, so this is going to be hard). It's too bad the nearest place that carries them is over 2 hours away from me, but at the same time, this is not a brand to just buy willy nilly. It is expensive, and I, at least, will only purchase from them when I have a special reason to.

Random - fragrance

So I got a sampler of fragrances from Sephora for Christmas 2009, and am just now getting around to testing all the fragrances. Man, it's funny how personal fragrance is to people, hehe. I was looking at reviews, just to see what people smelled in them, staying power, etc, and one of the fragrances, Ralph Lauren Romance, to be exact, I could not /stand/, but had good reviews. I just found that funny, thought I would share.

Oh, and I might be reviewing another fragrance soon, since I have this sampler, and my husband's (he didn't like any of them, so looks like I get his coupon, too, woohoo!). Let's see if I find anything worth getting a large bottle of!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 640 Summer Angel

What I say:
I got this lipstick while I was on the hunt for the Hardcandy nail polish that I got at Walmart, and really I just got it because of the purple tube, my lack of lipstick on me at the moment, and the SPF 18 that this claims it has.

The lipstick is sheer, and extremely frosty. Now, maybe, in another color, this would be okay qualities, but Summer Angel is a cool champaign color, so sheer and frosty just means it looks like I'm wearing, well, nothing but frost. I can't really think of another way of putting it. It's like when you have a highlighter that doesn't give much color of its own, and you put too much on, that frosty, kinda greasy but not grease, sheen.

To make matters worse, the frost and formula itself make your lips lines show like you put a neon sign up pointing to them. I know my lips have been a little dry as of late, with winter and all, but I had just treated them and moisturized hours before I wiped the treatment off, and the lines still showed. This is definitely not a lipstick for someone who doesn't have absolutely perfect lips, and even then, this probably isn't the lipstick for you. Like I said before, maybe this is just a fault of this color, but after this one, I'm not sure I want to find out if that is true or not.

On to the smell and taste. Horrible, both of them. I can stand some chemically smell and taste, but for this lipstick, the taste never goes away. Seriously, it's gross, that's about all I can say. The texture, surprisingly, I didn't hate entirely. While it feels a little greasy, it's not drying, and it almost feels like the grease is moisturizing your lips underneath the cover. There's slip, and the lipstick doesn't last the longest, but really, it could be worse.

Finally, a good point, the packaging. I love it. A rounded squared cylinder, purple plastic, and a crown at the top. Very nice.

Overall, I would not repurchase. For the price, this is absolutely terrible. I would expect something like this if I paid less than $5, but I paid over 7 to experience this. Unfortunately, I lost my receipt, and I'm not about to make a fuss over that amount, but otherwise, I would be taking this back for a refund. Hopefully I'll be able to find something to layer on top of this, since it might at nicely as a shimmer adding coat.

Random - I hate being sick

So, I went to a concert (only the second one I've ever been to, hehe) last week, and came back with hurting ears, a cold, and a better appreciation for a couple of songs that I rated lower before I saw them played in person.

Now this cold has taken my voice away for 3 days, and counting, and has just generally pissed me off in any way it could. Everyone around me has it, but for some reason I'm the only one that had their vocal cords affected.

Any case, this leads me to a small rant: if you are sick, for the love of all that you hold dear, don't go to a crowded event and get everyone around you sick! Sheesh, it's called common curtesy. If you have to go (this concert was really once in a lifetime), wear one of those facial masks to at least /try/. Oh, and cough into your sleeve, not onto people!

Well, at least I got to see a couple really good bands in person.

MAC Viva Glam VI SE Lipstick

What I say:
The website claims that Viva Glam VI SE (Special Edition) is a Soft Blue Pink (Lusture), and I think that is a pretty good description. It is not the most pigmented lipstick, but I have no trouble layering it to get it more opaque. This is just a MLBB color, though, so if you are looking for something more dramatic, this is not the color to turn to.

The texture itself is like many of MAC's lipsticks; not drying, a little moisturizing, doesn't seep into lines easily, and doesn't stay on lips for an extraordinary amount of time.

Is it worth the price? Well, I would say yes, since it is better than many drugstore lipsticks that you can buy, but for a little bit more, you can get a department store brand. Really, that's why MAC is called a mid brand; you can pay more, and get a little better, or less, and get a little worse. I'm not saying MAC is a bad brand, I'm just saying that they are not the be all and end all that many people seem to think they are. (In fact, I have quite a few MAC items, but I always weigh them for price and quality before I buy from them).

Overall, I like this lipstick. I wouldn't buy this color again, since it is just another MLBB, but it is nice to feel that you are donating to something, even if it is only a little bit.

End of the Month Lemmings, January

It's the end of the month! Storms, power outages, generators taking out my finger (man, that hurt), and lots and lots of rain... yeah, I'm not too sorry to see this month go.

On to the lemmings!

1) Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow

I have heard a lot of people say that this is actually quite pigmented, not chalky, and lasts a decent amount of time. I'm always up for a decent palette, since I have to travel a decent amount, and like to pack light, so this quad seems like it's right up my ally. Also, since Maybelline is often on sale, I can get it for a decent price, and not worry myself to death when it's in my luggage, wondering if it smashed itself to bits.

2) Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

I want this one in plum really badly right now, after hearing some great things about it. Like I stated before, Maybelline often goes on sale, and with an asking price of $10 to start, if you find a BOGO (buy one, get one) sale, you can get this for only $5. That's a really good price for a gel eyeliner, especially in a shade that you aren't sure about yet.

3) YSL Ombre Duolumières Eye Shadow Duo in Heavenly Beige

I know I don't need more expensive eyeshadows, since I'm afraid to travel with them, but this duo (not pictured) is called "beige/ khaki brown with gold undertones." I don't think I have a color that comes close to either of those shadows descriptions. Too bad I traded in my Guerlain blush for a concealer (and another blush, hehe), or I would have gotten this. The lemming started after I saw this FOTD, and made me look closely at the makeup I have for work.

4) A larger container for my stash.

Right now I'm using old shoe boxes, since those fit under the bed, and my house is ludicrously short of storage space. Need to do some spring cleaning, so I might be able to find a new spot for my makeup and body/face care stuff, which would be great. Probably just going to get something cheap from Target, since I don't care much about fancy, I just want functional.

5) e.l.f Brightening Eye Color in Butternut

I have been wanting to try this one for a long time now, since it is the lord of cheap palettes that I can throw in my bag and go, but for some reason, every time I get to checkout, I throw it out of my cart (on drugstore.com). Now that Target carries this line, I might actually purchase something from them, and test it out. Here's hoping my dollar is well spent!

Orly Nailpolish: Green Apple

Man, it likes to mess with my pictures, hehe.

Price: $7.5 for .6fl oz, 18mL

What they say:
"Free of DBP, Formaldehyde, and Toluene"

What I say:
I got this on sale, and while it's an okay polish, I'm not sure I would buy from this brand again, unless I really liked a color. The brush is really small for my liking, but usable, so some of you might like it. The bottle is a good size, and the rubber on the top is a nice touch, since it makes is easier to handle.

Green Apple, itself, is a nice neon green color, but still very wearable. It goes on sheer in thin layers, so I had to apply 3 to get a good coverage. The worst thing about this polish was the streaking. The layers dried quickly enough, but in order to get all the streaks colored, I had to apply layers (which I had to do anyway for the coverage, so at least that worked out).

The wear: Higher than OPI, so pretty good. It started chipping on my more used fingers (like pointer) within a couple days, but many of my nails didn't really start chipping until the end of day 3, beginning of day 4. This is really good for me, since I am not ginger with my hands when they have polish on them.

Overall, this polish was okay, but unless I find this brand on sale, or a really unique color, I am not going to purchase more.

What I say:
Mr. Wrong is a color that I saw online, and just had to buy. Sparkly, shiney, kinda purple/black, it is a great color for layering, and for just wearing in general. It applies sheer, though, so be prepared for layers, but it doesn't steak. It dries quickly, as well, so it doesn't take forever to get your nails finished.

The wear: Pretty normal, a little higher than some. Lasted a few days before chipping on me.

I had to get this at Walmart, which is now the new distributor of Hard Candy, a brand that used to be available in Sephora. Now, some of you might like Walmart, but I don't like it very much. My family all has good Walmarts near them; friendly staff, clean shelves, no crazies. I have a creeper. Dirty shelves, merchandise just laying there opened and used, unfriendly staff, and crazies that like to follow people around. *Shudders* The reason I brought this up is because, despite all this, I make the trek into Walmart, and got this polish. Now that I have it, would I do it again? No, not really. While it is a nice color, and applies nicely, I don't think it is really unique enough. Still, I was already in Walmart, so I was going to buy it (dang-nabbit!).

What I say:
This was recommended to me by my mom's hair person, after he cut my hair and saw how damaged, frizzy, and dry it was (ha!). Using only a little (a nickle size) amount after hair is towel dried, but still damp, you work it into your hair, not putting it on your roots. For me, I put it on the bottom 2/3 of my hair.

This, so far, is wonderful. I have tried other non-frizz products before, from companies ranging from Sunsilk to Bumble and Bumble, and this is the first that not only helps cut down on my frizz, but also doesn't weigh my hair down. It works almost like a combination of a very weak controller and a nice, not too strong leave-in conditioner.

The texture is like a thicker conditioner, but lighter. More like a body lotion, I would say, but when rubbing your hands together, it becomes more liquidy. I haven't had problems with it clumping into one spot on my hair, but I'm careful to try and distribute it evenly by pressing all over really lightly until it's on my hair, and then combing it through with my fingers, so I cannot say if it is all the product, if it's my application technique, or a combination thereof.

The curling aspect... Well, it supposedly helps with curl formation, but I really don't see that. My hair likes to do waves all on its own, so if it does help people, it doesn't help me. On the other hand, it doesn't weigh down my waves, but does help keep the frizz away longer, so it might be doing something /shrug.

The smell is heavenly. It really does smell like orange blossom, and I love it. The smell dissipates really quickly, for those who don't like fragrance, but I, for once, actually wish it stayed longer!

This is an expensive product, in my opinion, and I probably wouldn't have tried it if my mom didn't buy it for me as a present (so, yes, I did get it for free). After seeing how little I need to use, and how much a bottle holds, though, I will probably repurchase with my own money when this bottle runs out, assuming it still works as well for me in the future as it does for me now.

Update

I'm sorry that this is not a beauty/random update, as I normally do, but I wanted to update at all, and tell you why. My uncle was diagnosed with cancer for the third time late last year, with hopes that if it didn't metastasize further by early this year (earlier this week, in fact), they would be able to go ahead and do surgery to remove half his liver, where the tumors were located. Earlier this week, when they went to do the surgery, the initial glance (before they made the incision larger, thank goodness) showed that the liver was in poor condition, inflamed, and if they did do surgery, he would most likely not fully recover. The surgery was called off. Right now we're waiting for him to recover from just the incision that they did initially, and then we will begin looking at alternative options of treatment. Most options available to people are not options for him, given all the forms of treatment he has done in the past.

I'm not looking for sympathy, but do ask for your understanding during these times if I cannot update, given the real life problems that are happening right now. To those of you out there that have been in similar situations, I feel for you, and hope you got through them, or are going through them, safely, and with as much happiness as can be had at times like these.

Best of 2009

So another year's done (at least, on my calender), and it is time to look back at the best of 2009. Some of these I still have to review, hehe. On with the show!

1) Best Foundation: Max Factor Pan-Stik
I might have skin that doesn't like mineral oil, but this foundation does not irritate, cause breakouts, or other nasty things to my face. It also is extremely pigmented, so a little goes a really long way. Too bad Max Factor is pulling from these shores, but I already stocked up on a small supply of this foundation, so I should be good for at least a year. Let's see if this year can find me a better/new one to take its place ^_^.

2) Best Eyeshadow: Urban Decay
Urban Decay has a great color selection, good pigmentation, and lovely palettes. I don't like how they don't make a good eyeliner (kinda lumpy, and doesn't make a nice line for me), but I can forgive that for the other good points. If I were to change anything, besides the eyeliner thing, I would make the packaging nicer; the palettes are nice enough, but the singles that I have all have packaging that breaks way too easily, and I don't even travel with them.

3) Best Eyeshadow Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion
I only say that because it works the best for me, but actually I don't like it that much. The packaging sucks, the primer balls up if I accidentally put too much on, it doesn't work well with my concealer, and I really don't notice it keeping my eyeshadow fresher for that much longer. Still on the hunt for better in general, but in the meantime, this is the best that I have tried.

4) Best Blush: NYX
I find these to be as pigmented as NARS, as finely milled, and a fraction of the price. I have heard some people say that they are a little powdery, or chalky, but the colors I have do not suffer from that, so it might be a batch or color problem. The amount that you get is very generous, and the pigmentation makes it last even longer.

5) Best Lipstick: MAC
While NYX has the better color selection, most of their lipsticks are a little shiny for my liking. MAC, on the other hand, has the range from shiny to matte, and from pigmented to sheer. While I'm not the biggest fan of the price, they are still worth it, and I continue to buy from them. My biggest concern is that many of their colors are limited edition, so if you find something, unless you bought a backup right when it came out, you might never see your favorite again.

6) Best Lipgloss: Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect
Expensive, but lovely. I don't like how sheer these are, but everything else about them I love. They are shiny, but not over the top, non-sticky, don't have a strong flavor or scent, and the packaging is just lovely. I hope they come out with more colors that aren't just pink soon, because I really want to see how this formula works with something like, say, a deep red (not the sheer red that they have).

7) Best Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7
I'm still testing the MUFE ones, but am still a fan of these. I have eyes that don't like eyeliner, so waterproof is the way to go for me. It helps Urban Decay's case that they have a decent selection of colors. Other companies, including drugstore ones, are making more eyeliners that are supposed to be competitors to this favorite, but the prices are still similar, so who knows how popular the other brands will get.

8) Best Mascara: L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Lash Extension Effect Mascara
I know some people hate this stuff, but I find it to work really well if you have the time to apply it the right way. For those days that you have time to apply your makeup, the primer and mascara combination works well, give a nice effect, and washes off really easily (just remember that this only comes off with warm water, not makeup remover). I'm still on the lookout for a good everyday mascara, so look for more reviews.

9) Best Fragrance: Burberry London for Men
Yep, still loving this scent. Something about it just keeps making me come back for more. This year I'm planning on branching out a little more, though, so look out for possible fragrance reviews (I know that they are a personal thing, but some fragrances are more universally good or bad).

10) Best Makeup Remover: shu uemera Cleansing Oil
Still the best for me, and still the most convenient for travel. Non-greasy when removed properly, takes off even waterproof mascara like it was nothing, and helps clear our your pores at the same time. This is a trooper, and I hope to never be without it (and by the looks of how long a bottle takes to go though, I don't think that will be a problem). I still need to try the NYX equivalent, to see if that can take the place of this HG for me.

11) Best Lotion: L'Occitane Hand Cream
I found this relatively late this year, but fell in love with it quickly. It absorbs quickly, doesn't leave a greasy feel on my hands, doesn't mess with my eczema, and the scents don't linger/smell so badly that I get a headache. Too bad they cost an arm to get any of them. They might last a long time, but unless they are on sale, the price makes them a little too steep for an all the time lotion.

Wow, that's a long post, and a long list. I didn't even go though everything, just the things that I use all the time. I hope you all had a great 2009, and are looking forward to 2010 ^_^.

Hello all! Sorry this is actually in January, but the Holidays are/were a hectic time, and my brother's birthday is right after, so I didn't have time to write (I'm sorry!).

So let's get this show on the road! ^_^

1) Guerlain 'Cherry Blossom Blush Éclat' Compact

This I actually already bought, but am lemming its arrival. Yes, you heard me right, Nordstrom.com actually got this online earlier this week, even though it is not supposed to come out until the middle of January. The original reasons for the lemming are these: a) I love cherry blossoms/sakura, b) I love the design, c) After seeing swatches of this online, I fell in love with the color (the overspray goes away, but underneath is pink and peach, both colors that go well with my skin). It might be expensive, but I had to have it, so this was a self Holiday gift.

2) Chanel Rogue Allure Laque

Yet another expensive item. I want this in Dragon, which also happens to be the popular shade... I swear, I wasn't trying to follow a trend. I have heard a lot of people talk about the wear on these being exquisite, and as someone who hates to reapply, I thought I should get one. Red does look good on me (even my husband likes it on me, though he doesn't like admitting it, since he hates makeup), so Dragon was my choice. This actually got bumped for the above Guerlain blush, so while I'm sad that I didn't get it, I'm okay.

3) Fyrinnae Inks Liquid Eyeliner in Make-up Sex

Make-up Sex is described as "Black-based teal hue (or is is green? Hard to tell) which changes from pink to purple to blue to green." Teal? Oh yeah. I love teal. Fryinnae says that "These eyeliners are water-resistant, smudgeable while wet, and long-lasting. They were designed for use on the waterline, and may not work well used as a conventional liquid eyeliner." Okay, I'm sold, a teal that isn't a pencil for my waterline.

4) Shiseido Tsubaki Shining Shampoo and Conditioner

I have dry, thin strand, but a lot of it, hair. Tsubaki is the Japanese word for Camellia oil, a traditional oil used for both skincare and haircare, and one of the oils that can make a high-lathering soup. Camellia oil is also the closest oil to human skin oil, so it absorbs quickly, instead of just sitting there on top of your skin/hair. I think my hair would enjoy this.

5) Stila Smudge Pot Collection

I'm sure all of you have heard of this one, and probably own it yourself, but that doesn't stop the lemming, oh no it doesn't. So far my gel liner collection consists of two; a black (I think, I haven't used it, and it was a gift), and a deep chocolate mauve with slight shimmer. Both of them are from Bobbi Brown, so it would be nice to have a different brand to try. The kitten one is a nice addition, since it can also double as a eyeshadow.

I saw these questions on Beauty Look Book, and I thought it might be fun to answer these questions myself.

1) Why do you love makeup?
This is actually a strange question to me, because it's like asking why I like curry, or why I love warm covers. I just love them/it. I think of makeup as more of art supplies than anything, and use them about the same. Makeup isn't about age, sex, color of skin to me; it's about playing, having fun, and showing your personality. If you want to wear purple eyelashes with bright red lips, I might think that it doesn't look the greatest (unless you rock it), but why does what I think matter?

Basically, I love makeup because it is a method of expression. You don't need the most expensive stuff, or the latest colors, you just need to have fun, and show who you really are inside.

2) What do you look for in a brand?
I look for quality, quantity, and truth. A brand that does what it says it does is great. A brand that goes above and beyond what they claim is the best. I love NYX, MAC, Giorgio Armani, NARS, Jane, Maybelline.. basically, the whole range of brands, because every brand has something to contribute. NYX has great lipsticks, Giorgio Armani also has great lipsticks, but they are completely different animals. Should I just exclusively use one or the other? My answer is no, but yours might be different.

Oh, and packaging matters. I hate crappy, going-to-break-at-any-moment packaging. I don't care if it's a cheap screw top container, it needs to work.

shu uemura Cleansing Oil A/O

What I say:
While this isn't love at first sight, this is love at multiple glances, and with second thoughts.

I first came across shu uemura Skin Purifier High Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O (man, that's a mouthful) after many online bloggers and review communities convinced me that oil would, in fact, not destroy my face, if I was careful, and that this stuff is basically gold in a bottle. With these thoughts in my mind, I stalked up to a shu uemura counter in Nordstroms, and asked about the oil. Not only did they give me a pamphlet, they also gave me two samples to try (each one, with how little I use at a time, lasts me about a week, if only used at night).

Samples in hand, I headed home, and tried this. Now, I knew how to use it, since I had read the reviews: dry hands, dry face, rub in, little water, emulsify, rinse off. That's what I did, the first time. It left a film.

I hate film.

So I put this to the side, and was glad I hadn't paid for a full bottle. Reading more reviews, though, it turns out that even those instructions were wrong (Side note: don't do what the bottle instructions say. Too much waste, and it doesn't work as well). You put a little water on your hands, emulsify, repeat, and when the white is mostly gone, then you rinse. I tried this, and it worked. Still a little film, but nothing I can't handle.

So, I went to step 2, the makeup test. Does it remove makeup? Yes. Does it remove waterproof? From what I can see, yes. Does it do all this without the watering eyes of doom? Again, yes, but a small note, this can cause your eyes to get... cloudy, I guess is the word I'm looking for. Doesn't hurt, but it can be annoying.

Last thing I noticed, it does, in fact, help clear my pores. Since the oil can get into the pores, it can cause the stuff in them to come out. And since it emulsifies with water, it doesn't remain in them when you're done. Gross, when stuff is coming out (TMI, I know), but still, whatever helps.

Scent: I haven't really noticed one, since I'm not looking, but I have been told there is one.

Bottle: Great! No leaks, you can see how much is left, and the pump is very handy. I kept my small bottles for travel, and the nozzle fits perfectly inside, so that's a bonus.

So there you have it! This stuff is quite good, and I have since bought a full bottle of it. Now, the downside of this is that it is pricey. That's why, in my lemmings post earlier, I said I wanted to try the NYX version, to see how it stood up against the titan. Is it worth it anyway? Personally, that really depends on your budget and how often you are planning on using it. I use it maybe a couple times a week, and I can say that my bottle will last me for at least a year. When you break it down, that's really cheap, and so I would say worth it. If you are using it twice a day, though, and are using the full recommended 4-5 pumps (I'm using something like 1, maybe a little less), then even the big bottle will be drained quickly.

Regardless, if you are interested in trying this, or any shu uemura, oil out, I really recommend going to the counter. I can't say for certain you will get as much as I did, but even one sample should last long enough for you to see if you will react. (Maybe that's why they gave me so much, is that I told them I was worried about breakouts... hmm..).

NARS: Multiple in Orgasm

What I say:
This is a good product, but I wouldn't say it is the greatest thing ever.

The color is much like the NARS Orgasm blush, but I would say it's a little.. lighter? It's hard to describe the difference. Part of that is because of the difference in the textures, which always affects the color. The shimmery-ness of the color is more apparent, and the initial color is a little more subdued. Because of this, I find it to be a better highlighter than the original powder blush, but it still has enough color to be useable for a light blush look.

The case is the usual rubber that NARS likes to use, and some of you might not like that, since it does get messy quite easily. While I don't like the mess, I do like how it feels in my hands, which I think it more important on a product that you aren't going to be whipping out in public often (unlike lipstick or gloss). The lid does stay on well, and I haven't had any problems with it opening for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if it tried to in a purse, since that is a much more harsh environment than my travel bags. I did notice that the stick doesn't like to go back into the tube if you over extend it, so you do need to be careful about that.

Orgasm the Multiple's texture is like the other multiples, from what I've felt. It is kinda like a cream blush, but I think a little more dry than that. I find that using my fingers doesn't get much product on my cheeks, but it does layer well, so that isn't much of a problem. Putting it dirrectly on your cheeks from the tube can lead to overkill, but as long as you are careful, it shouldn't cause clown-face. I have also tried this on my eyes and lips, and while the color looked okay, I didn't like the texture that much on either part.

Overall, I would say this is good for those who travel a lot, since it can't shatter like a power blush, but I don't think it is that great beyond that. I might try the multiple in some other color, since it might work a little better, and I have heard that not all the multiples have the exact same texture when used. If you are interested in this product, I really do suggest playing with it a little in person, especially because it might not show up that well, depending on your skintone.

fresh: Sugar Lip Treatment

What I say:

This is my favorite lip treatment, and I keep coming back to it again and again. This isn't cheap, so I don't use it all the time (like during the day, when I use Nivea instead), but this is a great night treatment, even though it has SPF in it.

The smell of this reminds me of lemon bars, if you know what I mean. Lemony, vanilla-y, sweet, but not overpowering, and mouth-wateringly good. The smell goes away quickly after you put it on, so for those who don't like the smell, don't worry, it doesn't linger all day (or night).

The case is metal, with a screw-on top. I have put this in purses, my pocket, thrown it across the room, my cats have played with it... Well, you get the picture. Anyway, it has not opened on me once, unless I want to open it. No screwing up your purse or pocket with this one. Also, the case can take quite a beating, to the point that I'm thinking of reusing it as a pill case for vitamins when traveling, since it is compact, and strong.

The texture of this is what makes it such a great treatment; it is thick, a little greasy feeling, but not like after you eat something greasy, and it stays put. I put this on right before bed, and there is still some on my lips when I wake up the next morning. During winter, that is the difference between nice lips, and zombie, skin coming off, apocalypse lips. The texture is also part of why I don't use this all the time during the day. Unless I really need the extra thick layer on my lips, this is overkill. Still, even though I don't use it during the day all the time, it is nice to know that there is some SPF in it, in case.

Like I said at the beginning of this post, this is not a cheap lip treatment. A tube of this lasts me, well, practically forever, so I wait until a sale to pick up a tube or two, which will last me more than a year. If this is extremely outside your price range, though (or if you lost yours, and you can't find it, like what happened to me once...), I suggest something like Nivea/Labello (depending on where you live), which is much cheaper, and also quite nice.

What I say:
This is okay, and cheap for what it is, but it is not that great. I originally bought this because of the Retinol that it has in it, since you can never be too young to start the fight against wrinkles, but have not found it to really do anything.

The scent is basically non-existent, to the point that I can't really remember if it has a scent (good enough for me, it has no scent!). The texture is a little more soft than most creams that I have used (including La Mer, which I got a sample of once). Actually, I prefer the texture of this to thicker creams, because it is so easy to spread.

I have never had a problem of clogged pores from this on my face, but I have gotten a couple on my neck, and can only assume this was the culprit. Given that I have only gotten a few in the year that I have used it, though, I would say that it is indeed non-comedogenic.

Overall, decent, but not great. I purchased it again because there was a buy one get one on Neutrogena skincare, and I was getting more of my cleanser. I may or may not purchase again, depending on if I find a better night cream when I run out or not.

What I say:
What can I say but that this is a pretty good cleanser, and lasts a long time for the amount that you pay for it? Some might argue that the salicylic acid and AHA in this does not stay on your face long enough for it to really help, but I find that if you spend a little time putting/rubbing this on your face (gently!), it does help quite a bit. I have noticed a good bit of reduction in my blemishes using this, and so I keep using it.

Note about the active ingredients: AHA works for both blemish fighting, and supposed reduction of fine lines, even though it doesn't say that on the package. Just thought you might like to know ^_^.

The scent is very mild, just kinda a soapy background scent that is easily ignored. This does cause my face to be more taunt that I would like, so I only use this at night, since my face gets quite oily during the day. A little of this goes a long way; about a pea size is more than enough for my face, so this tube lasts forever. Speaking of the tube, you will have a lot of product at the bottom of it when you reach the point where you can no longer squeeze any more out. Be sure to cut it open and transplant the remnents.

One last little thing, this does not work well with a Clarisonic. I find the best cleansers for the Clarisonic are ones that are more slippery, and this is definitely not one of them.

Overall, great product, and will probably keep repurchasing, since it works well, and is cheap.

End of the Month Lemmings, November

A couple days late, but better late than never ^_^.

1) General lemming, a power eyeliner. I don't mean just a regular eyeliner that is in powder form, like Illamasqua Eye Liner Cake, but just in general. I've been thinking about getting some NARS eyeshadows (darker than what I have), since I have heard good things about them being used as eyeliner. Also, NYX eyeshadows in blue, black, and brown. I already tried a red one that I own, and using it wet didn't destroy it (like it does for some). This will seriously help in the travel department, since they aren't liquid, and the fact that they are powder means that you can use them regular for a less strong liner, wet for strong liner, or just as an eyeshadow.

2) Shiseido Mascasa Base

I have heard good things about this for a really long time, but just can't seem to justify spending $23 on a mascara base, when it has to be thrown out in 3 months anyway. Doesn't stop the lemming, though.

3) MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye Seal

For when I use my eyeliner/eyeshadow power, and want it to be waterproof. I have used the Too Faced and Urban Decay ones, and didn't like either. I did hear that this is much better, though, so I definitely need to try this out if I ever do get those powder eyeliners.

4) Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil In One w/Green Tea Extract

This lemming is not only for myself, but also for my readers! I have not heard anything about this product yet, since it is so new, but the ingredients look similar to non-other than shu uemura Skin Purifier High Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O. Not exact, and not in the same order, but still, similar enough that it peaked my interest. A cheaper cleansing oil (this only costs $10 online), that is not hard to get? That would be great.

5) A new perfume. Specifically, Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs Bewitching Brew The Black Tower. Known for their perfume oils, that they only make when an order comes in, so it is always the freshest possible, these little beauties cost about $15 for 5ml, or $3.50 for what they call an "Imp's Ear," which is 1/32oz. Yes, you read that right, this is expensive. The cost is totally worth it, though, since they contain the highest amount of actual perfume oil (regular eau de toilette is about 4 - 10% perfume oil, this stuff is about 15 - 80% perfume oil, depending on the blend).

The one that I have an eye on, The Black Tower, is described as "white sandalwood, ambergris, wet ozone, galbanum and leather with ebony, teak, burnt grasses, English ivy and a hint of red wine" (note, ambergris in this is actually not the real stuff, it is a vegan blend that is made to smell similar). Leather? Wet ozone? Ivy? I /need/ this. What's holding me back? The holidays. Once I'm certain that no one has bought this for me already, it is so mine.

So there you have it. I hope everyone is having a good holiday season, and that the Holiday Muzak is not driving you mad yet. Just remember, breath, and have a nice piping-hot cup of tea nearby ^_^.

L'Occitane Cherry Blossom Hand Cream

What I say:
This is indeed a non-greasy cream. I use this on my eczema riddled hands/wrists, and not only did it absorb, it didn't aggravate my sensitive skin. This works especially well during the colder months, since it is thicker, but still absorbs. I haven't tried this during the summer, but given the texture, I think it would melt off quickly, so I don't think this would be good for those of you who live in more humid, warmer climates.

The scent of cherry blossoms was there, but fainter than I expected, and faded before it got really annoying. It was more of a perfume scent than a natural one, but it wasn't horrible, and my husband thought it smelled nice. Because the scent of this one wasn't over the top, I'm interested in trying more scents from this company.

The price is a little high for the amount of product that you get. I got the 1oz "travel" version, so I expected it to be higher per ounce, but it still is steep. I could see this being $7, but not really 10. The 5.2 ounce one for $26 is a decent enough deal, considering how long it should last, but it's too big for travel.

The tube for this is metal looking (aluminum, if anyone cares, hehe), but when you really look at the top, you can see that it is plastic. Looking closely at the tube, it looks like there is a thin layer of metal surrounding a plastic tube. Whether this is for aesthetics, or if it actually helps protect the product, I can't say. The cap is just plain black plastic, in a octagonal shape to allow for easier opening and closing.

Overall, quite pleased with this lotion, but wish it was a little cheaper in travel form.

What I say:
I originally bought this for my husband, who hardly ever wears it, even though I beg him to *hint hint honey*, but ended up falling in love with it myself, and kinda wished I had kept it for my own (my only... my precious). The cinnamon leaves, tobacco, and leather are the strongest parts of the scent in my mind, and when it goes into its heart, and finally base notes, it leaves a nice warm lingeringness, like a fire on a cold day.

Speaking of a fire on a cold day, that's kinda what this scent reminds me of as a whole; a workshop in the next room, with the door open, and a fire warming everything inside up, so the scent goes throughout the house...

Opps, didn't mean to get all... emotional, or whatever you would call it. Scent is an emotional, and personal thing, though, so one person's favorite scent will make another person gag. Still, I think there's a moral to this story; just because it is says "for men" (or "for women" for you men out there), does not mean it cannot work for you. Sure, this scent is more masculine, for lack of a better word, but with the right outfit, maybe a little metal, maybe a little goth (heck, even a sundress with black heels), you can make it all your own.

What I say:
This is indeed a "magic mitt." I have used this to take of mascara (non-waterproof), liquid foundation, primer, and also cream foundation (with cream blush!). While it claims that you can use it with just warm water, I always pair it with my usual nightly cleanser, since I'm lazy, and doing it in two steps just adds more time. I tried using a cream eye makeup remover afterwards when I tested the removal of mascara, and nothing more came off, so it must be doing something right!

How you use this is you take the mitt, get it wet with warm water, and gently rub in small circles all over you face, like you would do with an exfoliator, or when you are normally cleansing with a washcloth. The little "hairs" or fibers of the cloth break through the barrier of oil that makeup creates, and allow water and cleansers to get through. Since the surface tension of the oil that bonds the makeup is broken, it just comes right off.

Now, here's another great part about it: to clean, you just clean it like a washcloth! Brilliant! Why so brilliant? Because you can clean it on the go, and since it's not a liquid/gel, you can bring it on a plane with you, no problem.

I got mine at a local beauty supply shop, but I know drugstore.com and dermstore.com carry it. It is normally $15, so I say, unless you are buying really expensive makeup-remover, it is probably a good idea to wait until you can get this on sale.

I still haven't tried this with waterproof mascara, since I hardly ever wear that, but I do know it took off my waterproof sunscreen, so it might work well with the mascara as well.

What I say:
9/28 So, so far, so decent. For the price, I quite like this. I did notice some light smudging, and maybe a little flakes on my undereye, but I wear cream concealers, so the oils might have blended. Going to try this more to see how it works.

10/6 Still liking this. Do notice a bit of smudging under my eyes if I'm using a cream concealer, and didn't push powder up to under my lashes.

11/10 This is not really started to dry up, but I have noticed more flakes then when I started using this. Also, it is clumping a bit more. At this rate, when it reaches the 3 months mark, it is going to be really hard to use. Started having to use a lash comb to get clumps out with only one coat, and I always wipe off excess before using.

So, I guess overall I think this is okay, but just not for me. The flaking only gets worse the longer I use it, and I hate having to constantly check to see if I'm sporting the black eye dandruff. For its price it is okay, but I'm not going to be crying when I can't find this one in the stores anymore, after Max Factor leaves these shores.

What I say:

These are okay. Not horrible, but not that great. The smell of these is quite nice, kinda earthy, not too strong. Both the shampoo and conditioner claim to be for dry/damaged hair, and to be moisturizing. While I can say they would be good for damaged hair, since they aren't that strong, they are not very moisturizing. If you use a moisturizing treatment often, or use oil on your ends, these would probably be a better fit than for someone who is looking for an all in one product.

Still, decent. The price is a little stiff for how well it works, but that's the price of good smell and organic ingredients. The conditioner is one of the strongest natural type I have found, so that's something, and it might be worth looking into if you are looking for something like that. I finished off the bottles just this afternoon (of the writing of this), so now off to try something new!

What I say:
I got this in color Muir Woods (looking online, this is a North America only shade?) as part of the Sephora Favorites Lip Service Box. It was honestly one of the reasons I got the box, since I had had this particular shade of lipstick on my wishlist for so long I don't even remember when I put it on there. I was ecstatic, thinking that I had found a great deal, and a good lipstick for a cheap price.

I was right; about everything but a "good lipstick."

I would have a swatch for you, but the lipstick is so waxy, so hard, and so lacking pigmentation that I can't even get a proper swatch off for you guys/gals.

I used this lipstick, and the end was still smooth, barely looking used at all. What little I did get on my lips did not last even an hour, and I had to really look hard to see any pigment at all.

I am so glad I got this at such a good deal; I would have sent this back so quickly otherwise.

What I say:

This is a nice treatment. I normally just use a toothbrush to exfoliate my lips, since, like the rest of me, gentle exfoliants just don't cut it (my skin doesn't like the flake off). I had heard good things about this exfoliant for your lips, so I decided to finally take the plung and pick it up.

It didn't make my lips overly dry (though I would still say use a lip balm afterwards, since you did just forcefully remove the dead layer of skin). The exfoliator was hardish, like a petroleum balm, when first squeezed from the tube, but warmed up quickly once on the lips. A little of this goes a long way.

The scent was a mild peppermint, not over the top, and the taste (yes, I did accidentally get some in my mouth) was not unpleasant. It was a little sweet, a little pepperminty, and a little... other, I guess would be the best way of putting it. I have heard it claimed that this is perfectly edible, but I wouldn't suggest just licking your lips off when you are done, instead of wiping it off like it tells you to in the instructions.

To use, you just take a little of the product, place it on your lips, and rub. I like to do a combination of small circular motions, mixed in with just placing my lips together and rubbing them together. This wasn't very harsh, and was not very irritating, either.

Highly recommended for anyone who, like me, suffers from flaky lips.

I got this in the Sephora Favorites Lip Service Box. This was a full size product.

Pros: This is a lovely beginners red; it's not too pink, not too brown, layerable, and not over the top. The formula is moist, without being a grease bomb, and did not feather/bleed on me, or show lip lines. It was easy to layer, faded gracefully, and didn't stain. Also, it looks lovely on pale skin (I didn't try this on other skin tones, sorry).

Cons: It was very easy to take off, meaning it didn't last very long. The size is minuscule (this is .06oz, a normal lipstick is .1-.14oz). The price is very steep for so little product.

Overall, it is decent, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this. The color looked good and applied well, which is good for how often you would have to apply it during the day. The small size is a big deterrent, and I would not suggest getting one of these unless a) you get it in the Lip Service box (a really good deal if you are interested in trying new things, and it comes with 3 full sized items), or b) get it on sale either through Sephora or Korres. Even then, I would only suggest b if you really like the formula and color.

I know I keep bringing up the price for the product, but let's do a little math:

Guerlain - Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact

$45 for .12oz, $375 per oz

Korres - Guava Lipstick

$22 for .06oz, $366.67 per oz

Another thing I almost got, but was told that it was greasy. The lemming still remains, but is fading. I was going to get one of the nude shades, since I have a lot of reds and pinks already in my collection.

5) ChapStick Fresh Effects, Invigorating Green Tea Mint

The problem is, it's expensive, and I'm not made out of money. I really want to try this out to see if it would make a good substitute for daytime use.

What I say:

I got this item in Sephora Favorites Lip Service Delux Sampler box, and actually liked it more than I thought I would. They claim that it morphs itself to your individual color. I don't think it does, I think the "morph" is really just your natural lip color messing with it, and the color of your skin next to the lipstick altering how it looks. This is true of almost all lipsticks, so that's not a problem for me, I just don't see how they can claim it changes colors because of chemistry (if this is actually happening, it is happening so fast, and is altering to the same color for all the people I have seen wear this. Kinda like O-Gloss).

The color is a Cherry Red color, kinda pinky, not too warm or cool, brighter red. It is nice for me, but I can see how many people say the color looks off for them. This is not a color for everyone (unlike what they claim).

The formula is a little drier than a lot of lipsticks that I own, but it didn't dry out my lips. I would recommend making sure you don't have tons of lip flakes before wearing, both because of the formula and because of the color. There was no bleeding for me, but my liplines were noticeable (I tried this without gloss to see if this would happen or not). The wear is great. I ate my entire lunch, and drank 2 glasses of water, and while the color is a little faded, there is no ring of doom, and the fade is even. I didn't even use a lipliner, and it lasted hours for me.

Overall, a good product. If you are in the market for a bright red, you might want to check this one out. It might not have the mood ring effect of changing to suit you, but it is a nice color, and it really does last a really long time. The price is a little steeper than many people might be willing to pay, so I wouldn't call this a must have, but it was fun to try.

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

What I say:
I have combination skin, and this stuff is HG (holy grail, meaning cannot be without) for me. It is a common mistake for people who have oilier skin to skip moisturizing or hydrating their skin, thinking that they don't need it. You do, and your skin might be oily because you aren't hydrating it.

That said, this is a hydrator, not a moisturizer. Use this under your moisturizer, or as a mask. A little of this goes a long way, but I am still am already on my second jar (and already ordered a third). I have been using it for months, and my face is clearer, less oily, and softer than it ever has been.

Give this a try; get a sample, buy it, anything, but you have to try this. The worst that happens is you give it to your SO for their face (this is the only facial thing my husband will use. He won't even use real facial wash).

Thing to note: Do not get this at a CCO unless you are certain of its age! I purchased one a couple months before I needed it at a CCO (Cosmetic Company Outlet, Estee Lauder's outlet store, which sells MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, and other subbrands at a discount) since I was in the area, and don't get to go to a CCO often. By the time I opened it, it was too late for an exchange, and the smell was off, like it had already gone bad. 20% off is not worth risking your face over.

And to give your an idea of how popular this stuff is, it sold out at Sephora's during their friends and family event in one day. Both sizes.

What I say:
Day 1.5 (I actually tested this before for color, and didn't break out from it, so kept going):
So far, so good. I used a MAC 187 to swipe some out of the container, and then blend it on my face. The coverage was great, did not look fake, and blended quite well. I topped with MUFE (Make Up For Ever) HD Microfinish Powder, also with the same 187, which had almost no product on it after using such a light coating. While it does cover wonderfully, I still needed Bobbi Brown's Corrector in Light Bisque (dark circles of doom), but the two layered beautifully.

By the "end" of the day (I put this on at 7am, and took it off at 4pm, so 9 hours... really? o_O) I did not notice any creasing, fading, flaking (except my eye, but that's a whole 'nother story, and nothing against this at all), or transfer to clothing. I took this off with a combination of Jane Iradale's "Magic Mitt" (which I am also testing, seems to work so far) and my usual nightly cleanser. Seemed to come off easily. Now to play the waiting game...

Day 3(of wearing, not total) Still no breakouts. I waited a number of days between applications in case breakouts would be caused by inadequate cleansing, or other factors (ex, that time of the month). Still covers well, and still need a transparent powder on top. I don't really mind this, since it helps control oil, and makes it last longer.

Day 5 Loving this still. Had to travel with it, which is where this foundation shines. Being just a larger than lipstick tube, it handles travel like a champ. Since it is also opaque, it really cuts down on how much you have to bring, since it can double as concealer.

Overall, I'm still liking. Usually I break out from things that have too much silicone, or too many petroleum products (blame my genes on those). This has no silicone, but the first ingredient is mineral oil. I have combination skin, and had absolutely no problem with it (very rare). Even though it is a cream, it can accentuate dry skin, so exfoliate if that is a problem for you. The color selection is a but meh. I was able to find a very good match with Natural, but Nude Ivory might be a better bet in the Winter (I'm actually not sure of that, since the number is higher, but I have heard that Nude Ivory is lighter from some people). A lot of the colors learn towards cool/pink, but some of them are warm.

I really wish Max Factor wasn't leaving the US in early 2010. This is a great product, but I don't think importing it would be worth it, because of shipping. Maybe it would be, though, if you got a CP, and bought some other stuff along with it.

MAC Brush Cleanser

What I say:
You know, I was surprised at how much I like this. I had heard so much about it, I just assumed the people who said it was good were hyping it because it was MAC, and the people who said it was bad were either right, or hating it just because it was MAC. Eventually, enough YouTube videos won me over, so I decided to try this out.

First off, this isn't a usual brush cleaner. It has alcohol, and apparently can be a pain to remove if you follow their instructions. The way that I use it (and saw a lot of others online use it) is not the way it tells you to use it on the packaging. First, take a tissue (or in my case, a papertowel) and fold it in quarters. Take the side that can flap open, and pour some of the cleanser on that side until it is wet (and soaked all the way through the layers, this is important). This leaves you with a mostly dry papertowel, and a wet corner. Take you brush, and work it back and forth, or even circles, into the corner, occasionally wiping it off on the dry parts. If the wet or dry part gets too dirty, switch to a new "sheet" in your "book" that you made. After the brush is clean, reshape it, and lay it on its side to dry (which shouldn't take long, the first one I did was dry by the time I was done with the last one).

Using the above method, I was able to clean all the brushes that I usually use, and still have enough clean sides to clean some more. What I cleaned was: two eyeshadow brushes, one foundation, one concealer, two eyeliners, one blush, one slant brush (white, so really hard to clean normally), and a skunk brush that was covered (lightly) in cream foundation. What really amazed me was the skunk brush. Those who own them know how the bristles can stain easily, even if clean. Mine came out like new.

Overall, I am really happy with this product. I have heard people say that you still need to clean your brushes the normal way (baby shampoo, brush cleaner and water, etc), and I can see how some people might if you are really working product deep into your bristles, but for me, this method should be more than adequate for my needs.

For the price, you get a generous amount of product. I can see this lasting for a long time before I need to get more.

This is one of the best brush cleansers I have ever seen, and also one of the easiest to use, and fastest drying. I highly suggest checking it out if you don't already have a HG method of cleaning your brushes.

What I say:

This is a really good product, and I could not easily live without it. This is one of the few products that I have found that I can use on my eczema that doesn't cause it to act up. It isn't the most moisturizing, or the cheapest, but I think it's great (great enough that I have gone through several bottles of this stuff).

The smell of the one I get is real peppermint, and dissipates quickly enough that it shouldn't give people a headache. The consistancy is pretty standard: not really runny, not really that thick. I would say it's a little more on the thick side, but not by much. I have not noticed a buildup of product on my clothes from using this (for.. years now, I think), nor have I noticed my skin getting used to this, and needing more moisture.

So, yeah, I love this stuff. You can find Try Mes at Whole Foods, and perhaps other places, though I haven't seen many places that have this in person. Drugstore.com does carry it (for a decent price, as well), and you can also get it from avalonorganics.com.

What I say:

This stuff tries hard, and kinda makes it to the goal, but really kinda fails along the way.

What do I mean by that? Well, let's start off with what it does. It does get rid of the oilies, for the most part. It does leave your hair with some volume, and it does leave it smelling nicer.

What does it fail at? First, it's a bugger to get out. It doesn't spread easily enough to really get all your roots, so you end up using too much of it. It leaves a whitish cast to your hair, that no matter what you try (towel, more rubbing in, brush, brush with boar bristles) won't go away.

So would I say this is a complete failure? Not really. For lighter haired girls (I have light brown hair, btw) this would work better, since the white cast of the powder would be harder to notice. For hikers, this is great, since you only need this and a brush to get your hair less greasy (I hate that feeling when hiking). For people stuck in airplanes, and don't care, it would work, too... Basically, it works great, /if/ you don't need to worry about the white cast.

I have tried this 4 times now, and unless I'm just missing something basic (which is entirely possible) this is just a no-go for me. I have heard there is another type, from a different brand, which is the same thing, but darker powder, so no cast. I might try that one out in the future, but in the meantime I'll just stick to my shampoo and conditioner.

Hair removal: Epilating

I decided to write this review mostly because of how obscure this topic is:

Epilating. Some of you have heard of it, others of you have no idea what I'm talking about. Epilating is the act of removing hair by pulling it out by the root with a mechanical device that is easier described as a lot of tweezers that rotate. This is not a pleasant way to remove hair, but it has its ups and its downs, so let's talk about those, shall we?

Pros:
Epilating, once you have the device, is very cost effective. The epilator itself is about $33-$70, depending on brand, features, and speeds, and should last you several years (or at least mine has lasted that long). The one I have has a trimmer, so it can cut longer hair (or to keep some hair at a constant length), an epilating head, and two clip-ons that you use with the head; one is for quick work, the other helps raise the hair, and massage the skin, so it's better for beginners. Mine also has two speeds: destroy you fast, and really destroy you fast. Since you buy the device once, you can do this as many times as you want, without having to think about cost, unless your epilator dies.

The hair that is removed comes back more slowly, and "finer." I say "finer" because in actuality, the hair is just as thick, it just comes out tapered. This is like waxing, so however long it takes your hair to come back after that, this is similar

For those of us who have "shadow" as soon as you shave, this is a must have. I suffer from the dreaded "pit shadow," and even if I don't have time to do the rest of me, I still try to keep up with my underarms.

Cons:
This is painful. Some claim that epilating is just as painful as waxing, others more, others less. I say it is less painful, mainly because no heat, no stuck skin, and no ripping all out at once. Also, the more you epilate, the easier it gets. At this point, I don't really feel it all that much (I still feel it, mind), and since hair comes in sparser, there's less to get every time,so less pain.

This takes time. A lot of time. You start, and watch a show, and you might still be epilating when it is done amount of time. Granted, on the other hand, it takes less time than shaving every day or two, if you add the time up.

You need a power source, and the epilator is not water proof.

It does not remove all the hair. Shocker, really, but what really does? I epilate once a week or two, and then shave when I'm done to get the rest that I missed.

You need to clean it when you are done. This is the same with razors, though, so *shrug*.

So there you have it. Epilating, the not-so-heard-of art of hair removal. Do I suggest it? That's a matter of preference, now isn't it? I think it is great, but my mother despises it (she says it's too painful). If you are interested, I say try it, or at least look into it more. Oh, and Braun, the maker of razors, make some decent epilators.
